How a family quote should be laid out

A clear family quote has one line per person, the age band used for each child, and the package total. If you only see one family total, ask for the breakdown before paying.

The breakdown matters because the biggest errors in family quotes are age errors. A 12-year-old priced as a child, or a toddler wrongly charged Green Tax, can each move the bill by hundreds of ringgit. Our Budget and Real Cost hub covers the other common quote problems.

Worked example: two adults, a child and an infant

This uses the HolidayGoGoGo Arena Beach Maafushi 4D3N package, checked on 12 October 2026, for travel between 11 January and 31 October 2026. The family is two adults, a 7-year-old and a 1-year-old.

The flight figure is the cheapest return seen on Traveloka on 11 October 2026, per seat, and will change. Infants on a parent's lap usually pay a reduced infant fare; ask your airline.

The infant note. The package page lists a Green Tax charge of RM90 for an infant over 3 nights. MIRA's circular exempts children under two from Green Tax. Ask the agency what the RM90 covers before paying it.

When a child moves to the adult band

Many packages charge children from age 12 at the adult rate. On the Arena Beach package, a 12-year-old would add RM2,319 instead of RM1,799, a difference of RM520 on the ground package alone.

Resorts set their own bands, and some differ from the agency's. Ask for the age bands in writing and give each child's age on the travel date, not the booking date.

Worked example: a resort water villa family

AF Travel's Le Meridien Thilamaafushi lagoon villa package, checked 12 October 2026, lists RM8,696 per adult twin share for 1 October to 23 December 2026, and RM1,676 per child aged 2 to 11 sharing. Maximum occupancy is 2 adults and 2 children, or 3 adults and 1 child.

For two adults and two children, the ground package would be 2 x RM8,696 plus 2 x RM1,676, which is RM20,744 before flights. The child rate on the print page is unusually low compared with the adult rate, so confirm the column before relying on it.

Line-by-line checklist for any family quote

Run these checks on each line of the quote.

1. Age band. Is each child in the right band for their age on the travel date?
2. Bed. Is the child sharing a bed, on an extra bed or in a cot? Each can be priced differently.
3. Green Tax. Charged for everyone aged two and over, not for under-2s.
4. Meals. Are children's meals in the package, or charged at the resort?
5. Transfers. Is there a child fare on the seaplane or speedboat?
6. Festive charges. Are children charged for gala dinners on 24 or 31 December?
7. Flights. Is every seat counted, including the infant fare?

The festive line is easy to miss. The same Arena Beach page lists compulsory gala dinners at RM285 and RM335 per child.
