Quick answer

MaldivesQuest is an independent Maldives research and trip-planning website for people in Malaysia. We publish guides, price research and free planning tools, and we reply to trip briefs with options and an itemised view of likely costs. Firm quotations, bookings and payments are handled by a licensed Malaysian travel company named on your quotation.

MaldivesQuest is an independent website that helps people in Malaysia research and plan a Maldives holiday. We publish guides, ringgit price research and free planning tools, and we answer trip briefs with practical options.

This page explains who does what. It sits within our trust and transaction clarity hub, where you will find the detailed policies.

What does MaldivesQuest do?

We research and explain. Our job is to make a Maldives trip easier to understand for a Malaysian traveller: visas, taxes, flights from KLIA, transfers, island types and what things really cost in ringgit.

Everything we publish is checked against official sources where they exist, such as Maldives Immigration, MIRA (the Maldives tax authority) and official resort websites. Each page shows a "Last reviewed" date, and prices show the date researched and their basis.

Our free tools, including the trip cost calculator, let you run your own numbers before you speak to anyone.

What happens when you send a trip brief?

You can send a brief through the enquiry form or WhatsApp. We read it and reply with suitable options and an itemised view of likely costs, so you can see where the money goes.

If you then want a firm price, we pass your brief to a licensed Malaysian travel provider. This only happens with your consent, given through a separate tick box on the form.

Who books, takes payment and holds the licence?

Bookings and payments are made directly with the licensed travel company named on your quotation. That company prepares the quotation, confirms availability, issues the booking, collects payment and is responsible for the travel services.

Every quotation names the company issuing it and its MOTAC licence number. Check that licence on MOTAC's search before you pay, using the steps in our guide to verifying the licence of the company issuing your booking.

The partner's name and licence are configured site-wide and shown on the enquiry page once a partner is appointed. The full flow is set out in who arranges and books a trip requested through MaldivesQuest.

How is the site funded?

MaldivesQuest may earn a referral fee from the travel provider when a trip is booked. You do not pay MaldivesQuest anything.

Recommendations in our guides are based on research, not on payments. If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be clearly labelled "Sponsored". The detail is on how MaldivesQuest earns referral revenue.

How we handle your information

The enquiry form asks for trip details, your name, a phone or WhatsApp number and/or email, your preferences and your consents. It never asks for passport, IC or date of birth.

How that data is used, stored and deleted is covered in how MaldivesQuest handles enquiry data and the formal privacy notice.

How we keep the content accurate

Tax and visa facts are rechecked at least quarterly and whenever an official change is announced. When we get something wrong, we fix it promptly and note the change.

Our editorial standards explain the checking process, and the corrections log records what has changed.

Who the site suits best

MaldivesQuest suits travellers who like to understand the numbers before they commit: first-timers, honeymooners, families, and anyone comparing a local-island trip with a resort stay.

If you already know exactly which resort and dates you want, you may prefer to go straight to a licensed travel company or the resort. Our guides are still useful for checking that the quote you receive has the inclusions you expect.

What to expect from a reply

A typical reply sets out two or three options that fit your dates, budget and travel style, with the trade-offs explained in plain language. For example, a family might see a speedboat resort beside a seaplane resort, with the transfer cost and timing for each.

The itemised view shows the main cost lines separately: flights from KLIA, room, taxes and service charge, Green Tax, transfers, meals and a sensible buffer. Each line states its basis, such as per person or per room.

These figures are research-based estimates to help you decide. A firm, bookable price comes only from the licensed travel company's quotation, as explained in how we distinguish package research from a bookable quotation.

Questions travellers ask

Is MaldivesQuest a travel agency?
MaldivesQuest is a research and planning website. We help you understand options and likely costs, then, with your consent, pass your brief to a licensed Malaysian travel provider for a firm quotation. That company prepares the quotation, issues the booking, collects payment and is responsible for the travel services. Its name and MOTAC licence number appear on every quotation it sends you.
Do I pay anything for using the site or sending a brief?
Using the guides and tools is free, and so is sending a trip brief. If you go ahead with a trip, you pay the travel provider named on your quotation. MaldivesQuest may receive a referral fee from that provider when a trip is booked, which is explained in full on our referral revenue page. That fee is not added as a separate charge to you.
Which travel company will quote my trip?
The partner company's name and licence details are shown on the enquiry page once a partner is appointed. Every quotation also names the issuing company and its MOTAC licence number. Check that number on the MOTAC licence search before you pay anything, which takes about two minutes.
Can I just use the guides without enquiring?
Yes. Most readers use the cost guides, checklists and calculator to plan on their own, and many book elsewhere. The site is designed to be useful whether or not you ever send a brief. The guides are kept current with a "Last reviewed" date on each page.
