A Maldives trip from Malaysia costs roughly RM3,700 to RM42,000 per person for 4 nights, depending almost entirely on where you sleep and how you reach the island. The figures below are worked estimates, not quotations, so you can see where every ringgit goes.

What does a 4-night Maldives trip cost per person?

For two adults sharing a room, a realistic range is RM3,700 at the budget end, about RM9,000 for a mid-range resort, and RM17,000 or more for a five-star water villa. Ultra-luxury pool villas push past RM40,000 per person.

Each row assumes KLIA nonstop flights, 4 nights, room rates before tax plus the 28.7% service and TGST uplift, Green Tax, a return transfer and allowances for food, trips and a buffer.

Which costs do people usually miss?

Four lines catch most Malaysians out: room taxes, Green Tax, the transfer and meals at a resort. Together they can add 40% or more to the headline room price.

Room taxes come first. Most properties add a 10% service charge and then 17% Tourism GST on top, so a USD 450 rate becomes about USD 579 (450 × 1.10 × 1.17).

Green Tax is a fee charged per guest per night. It is USD 12 at resorts and USD 6 at guesthouses on inhabited islands with 50 rooms or fewer, according to MIRA. Children under two are exempt.

How much are flights from Malaysia?

A Traveloka search on 11 October 2026 showed a cheapest KUL to Male return of about RM1,155 in economy. One-way AirAsia and Batik Air fares for early November were around RM473 to RM479, while Malaysia Airlines showed about RM1,028 to RM1,049 one way.

Travellers from Penang, Kota Kinabalu or Kuching usually connect through KLIA, so add the domestic leg to the flight line.

How do advertised Malaysian packages compare?

Most packages sold in Malaysia are ground packages: 3 nights, flights excluded. That is why their prices look lower than a complete trip.

To turn a ground package into a trip cost, add the return flight (from about RM1,155) and any extra night in Hulhumale if your arrival misses the last transfer.

What moves the total up or down?

The island type matters most. A local-island guesthouse and a resort beach villa can differ by RM5,000 per person on the same dates.

After that, in rough order of impact:

• Transfer type: speedboat resorts near Male are far cheaper to reach than seaplane resorts.
• Meal plan: all-inclusive can add USD 110 to 190 per person per day at many resorts (Holiday.com.mv band).
• Villa type: water villas usually cost more than beach villas at the same resort.
• Dates: school holidays and the December to April dry season raise rates.
• Room sharing: a solo traveller pays the whole room, which roughly doubles the per-person room line.

Who suits each budget best?
