About MaldivesQuest

Who arranges and books a Maldives trip requested through MaldivesQuest?

You have sent, or are about to send, a trip brief and want to know exactly who you will be dealing with at each stage.

Quick answer

A licensed Malaysian travel company arranges and books the trip. MaldivesQuest reads your brief and replies with options and likely costs, then, only with your consent, passes it to that company. The company named on your quotation confirms availability, issues the booking, collects payment and is responsible for the travel services.

A licensed Malaysian travel company arranges and books any trip requested through MaldivesQuest. We help at the planning stage, and with your consent we hand your brief to that company for a firm quotation.

This page follows one brief from start to finish. For the bigger picture of what the site is, see about MaldivesQuest and the trust and transaction clarity hub.

Stage 1 and 2: your brief and our reply

A good brief covers dates, departure airport, number of travellers and ages, budget in ringgit, and the kind of trip you want. Our enquiry form prompts for each of these.

We read it and reply with options that fit, and a cost breakdown showing flights, room, taxes, Green Tax, transfers and meals as separate lines. These are research-based estimates, explained further in how we distinguish package research from a bookable quotation.

Your brief goes to the travel provider only when you tick the consent box. That box is separate from any marketing opt-in, so you can ask for a quotation without signing up for updates.

What we pass on is the brief itself: trip details, your name, contact details and preferences. The form never asks for passport, IC or date of birth, so none of that is shared. The provider may ask for traveller details later, when it issues the booking.

Stage 5 and 6: the quotation and your licence check

Every quotation names the company issuing it and its MOTAC licence number. Look that number up on MOTAC's search before you pay.

The check takes a couple of minutes, and our guide to verifying the licence of the company issuing your booking walks through it with screenshots of what to look for.

Stage 7 and 8: booking, payment and travel

Bookings and payments are made directly with the licensed travel company named on your quotation. Pay only to the bank account or payment link that the company itself provides, in the company's name.

From here, the company is your point of contact for tickets, vouchers, changes, cancellations and support during the trip. Its booking terms set out deposits, balance dates and cancellation rules.

Where MaldivesQuest fits after you book

Payments go to the travel company, and MaldivesQuest may receive a referral fee from that company when a trip is booked. You pay MaldivesQuest nothing, as set out in how MaldivesQuest earns referral revenue.

Our guides stay available for the practical side: the IMUGA traveller declaration, what to pack and what to expect on arrival at Velana.

Who this arrangement suits

It suits travellers who want independent research first and then one licensed company to handle the booking. It also suits groups and families who want a single quotation covering flights, transfers and rooms.

If you prefer to book every piece yourself, the planning reply alone is still useful. Leave the consent box unticked and use our numbers to compare offers.

A worked example

Say a couple in Penang want five nights in a beach villa in March, flying from KLIA, with a budget of about RM15,000 for two. They send the brief on a Sunday evening.

Our reply sets out two resorts reached by speedboat and one reached by seaplane, with flights, room, 17% Tourism GST, 10% service charge, Green Tax and transfers costed line by line. It also notes the connection from Penang to KLIA and the seaplane cut-off of about 15:30 in Male.

They choose the speedboat option and tick the consent box. The travel provider then sends a quotation in its own name, with its MOTAC licence number, a validity date and a payment schedule. The couple check the licence on MOTAC's search, then pay the provider directly.

What to keep for your records

Keep the quotation, the booking confirmation, every payment receipt and the provider's emergency contact. Each should show the same company name as the MOTAC record you checked.

If any document shows a different company name or a personal bank account, pause before paying and ask the provider to explain. You can tell us as well, using the contact route on the enquiry page.

Questions travellers ask

Will the travel company contact me directly?
Yes, once you have ticked the consent box and asked for a firm price. The company named on your quotation will contact you using the details you gave, usually by WhatsApp or email. From that point, questions about availability, payment schedules, tickets and changes are answered by that company, because it holds the booking.
What if I only want MaldivesQuest's reply and not a quotation?
That is fine. Leave the consent box unticked and your brief stays with us. We reply with options and an itemised view of likely costs, and you can take that research to any provider you like, or book independently.
Who do I contact if something goes wrong during the trip?
Contact the travel company that issued your booking, using the emergency contact on your booking documents. It is responsible for the travel services it sold you. Please let us know too, as it helps us judge which providers and products we suggest in future.
Can the travel company change the price after quoting?
Quotations usually have a validity period and depend on availability at the time of booking. Read the validity date and conditions on your quotation. Once the booking is issued and paid as agreed, the terms of that booking apply, as set by the company issuing it.

How we research and check facts

When you are ready, send us your trip brief. You decide, with a separate tick box, whether it goes on to the licensed travel company for a firm quotation.

Want options that fit your dates and budget?

Share a short trip brief: when you want to go, who is travelling and the budget you have in mind. We reply with suitable island and resort options and an itemised view of costs.
