How to read a Maldives package price per person on twin sharing

You see "RM2,319 per person, twin sharing" on an agency page and want to know what you and your travel partner will actually pay.

Last reviewed 12 October 2026Prices researched 11 October 20264 min

Quick answer

A per person, twin sharing price is the price for one of two adults sharing one room. A couple pays double the figure, so RM2,319 per person twin sharing means RM4,638 for two. A solo traveller usually pays more per person, and children usually have their own rates. Flights are normally extra, so add about RM1,155 or more per person for a return KUL to MLE ticket.

What "per person, twin sharing" actually means

It is the price one adult pays when two adults share one room. The agency has taken the cost of the room and the package for two people, and divided it by two.

So the number on the page is never the price of the room, and rarely what a couple pays in total. It is the right figure only for one half of a pair. This is the single most common reason Maldives quotes seem cheaper than they are. Our Budget and Real Cost hub covers the other common traps.

The labels you will see, decoded

Malaysian agency pages use several labels. They are not interchangeable, so read the exact wording next to the price.

Label on the pageWhat it meansWhat a couple pays
Per person, twin sharingOne of two adults in one room2 x price
Per adult twin shareSame, children priced separately2 x price
Per person, minimum 2Per person price only valid for two or more2 x price; solo pays more
Per person doubleTwo adults, usually one large bed2 x price

The "from" label needs the most care. Several 12Fly listings checked on 11 October 2026 showed "from" prices without itemised inclusions, so even the per person basis needs confirming.

Worked conversions for different parties

Children often pay a separate airfare too. The total for the family assumes the child pays the same fare, which you should check with the airline.

The solo traveller problem

A solo traveller pays for a room alone, so the per person price rises. Agencies call the extra a single supplement, and many do not publish it.

If you travel alone, ask for the solo price in writing before comparing packages. Our page on the single supplement for solo travellers explains how it is usually worked out, and the page on what happens if one traveller cannot share a twin room covers groups with an odd number.

Five checks before you trust a per person price

Run through these each time. They take two minutes and avoid most misunderstandings.

  1. Is it per person or per room? Look for the exact words next to the number.
  2. How many nights? 4D3N means three hotel nights, not four.
  3. Which dates? Prices often change by month, and festive dates are usually priced separately.
  4. What is included? Transfers, meals, Green Tax and GST make a large difference.
  5. Are flights in? In the Malaysian packages we checked, they were not.

Why agencies quote this way

Twin sharing is the most common way people travel to the Maldives, so it is the natural headline. It also gives the lowest-looking number, because it splits one room between two people.

There is nothing wrong with the convention, as long as the basis is stated clearly. The problem comes when a page shows a large price with small print, or when the basis is missing altogether.

Resort websites work the other way. They usually quote per room per night before taxes, so the same holiday can look very different on a resort site and on an agency page. You cannot compare them until both are on one basis.

Who needs to read the basis most carefully

Couples rarely go wrong, as long as they double the figure and add flights. Families and groups need more care, because child rates, extra beds and odd numbers change the maths.

Solo travellers and anyone comparing a resort's own room rate with an agency package should slow down most. A resort rate per room per night before taxes and a package price per person after taxes can look similar while being very different.

When you have converted each quote, set them side by side in the trip cost calculator, so every option is on the same basis.

Questions travellers ask

What is the difference between twin sharing and double sharing?
In package pricing they mean the same thing for cost, two adults in one room, each paying the per person price. Twin can also describe two single beds, and double one large bed, so if bed type matters for a honeymoon or for two friends, ask the agency to confirm the bed set-up separately from the price.
What does "minimum 2 persons" mean on a package?
It means the per person price only applies when at least two people book together. A solo traveller cannot buy it at that price, and will normally be quoted a higher single rate. One HolidayGoGoGo honeymoon package checked on 11 October 2026 was priced per person with a minimum of two.
Is the per person price including taxes?
Only if the inclusions say so. Some Malaysian packages list Green Tax, service charge and government tax in the price, while some "from" prices list nothing. Check the inclusions, and if taxes are not named, ask whether Green Tax and the 17% tourism GST are extra.
Can three adults share one room at the twin sharing price?
Usually the third adult pays a separate extra-bed rate, and the first two pay the twin sharing price. Not every Maldives room can take a third bed, especially overwater villas. Ask the agency for the third-adult price and confirm the room's maximum occupancy before you plan on it.
