Maldives family resort and room eligibility checker

You are planning a Maldives trip with children, maybe grandparents too, and need resorts where your family can actually stay together.

Last reviewed 12 October 20263 min

Quick answer

Start from the children's ages and how much transfer the family can manage, then check each resort's kids club, water villa age limits and room occupancy. The checker below shortlists up to eight resorts from our file of 56, explains why each fits, and builds the list of questions to ask. It ranks; it does not confirm eligibility, so get room rules in writing.

Send this shortlist with my family trip brief

This shortlist ranks resorts using our research file, checked 11 October 2026. It does not confirm room eligibility or child policies. Confirm ages, occupancy and villa rules with the resort in writing before you pay.

      How to use the checker

Type the children's ages at the time of travel, separated by commas. Tick if grandparents are coming, if someone has limited mobility, and if you want a kids club.

Then choose the transfer the family can handle: a short speedboat of 30 minutes or less, any speedboat, speedboat or seaplane, or anything including a domestic flight. Tick budget tiers if you want to limit them, or leave them all clear for any tier.

The shortlist shows how many resorts fit and up to eight of them, best first. Each card lists why it fits, what to check, the children's policy from our research where we have one, and the official website. Below, a list of questions builds itself from your family, ready to copy, print or send.

      How resorts are scored

The checker reads our resort file, researched on 11 October 2026, and adds or removes points for each family feature. A feature confirmed on an official source scores more than one that is only reported.

      SignalEffect
Kids club confirmedStrong plus when you want one
Kids club reported, not confirmedSmaller plus, with "confirm" note
No kids club, when you want oneMinus
Positioned for families or often picked by familiesPlus
Speedboat of 30 minutes or lessPlus, more with under 4s or limited mobility
Seaplane, with grandparents or limited mobilityCaution about boarding
Domestic flight neededCaution, stronger with under 4s
Age limit in the children's policy, child under 12Water villa caution

Questions follow the same logic. A child under 3 adds a cot question, under 2 adds a Green Tax and transfer fee check (under 2s are exempt from Green Tax), under 16 adds a water villa age question, and any child adds occupancy, extra bed and meal plan questions.

Worked example 1: young children and grandparents

A family enters children aged 2 and 7, ticks grandparents and kids club, chooses "Any speedboat, no seaplane", and leaves budget open. On the current file, 24 resorts fit.

Bandos Maldives comes first: kids club confirmed, positioned for families, a children's policy on file and a speedboat of about 15 minutes, with a caution that water villas may have a minimum age. Centara Mirage Lagoon and Meeru follow, both with a confirmed kids club.

The question list covers cots, water villa ages, occupancy, extra beds, child meals, babysitting, kids club ages, interconnecting villas and buggies or steps. That last one matters with grandparents.

Worked example 2: older children and a seaplane

A family with children aged 10 and 13 chooses "Speedboat or seaplane", ticks the mid-range, luxury and ultra-luxury tiers and does not need a kids club. The shortlist now leans to resorts further out, with the seaplane shown as part of the transfer.

Because the 13-year-old is over 12, a teen programme question appears. With a 10-year-old, any resort whose policy mentions an age limit shows the water villa caution. At Kuredu, for example, our file notes some villa areas are for guests 12 and over or 15 and over.

Who it suits, and what to do next

The checker suits families with children and multi-generation groups who want a shortlist they can defend. It does not show prices; once you have two or three resorts, compare them in the resort comparison worksheet and cost the trip with the trip cost calculator.

If you land on an evening flight with small children, check the flight arrival and transfer planner before you commit to a seaplane resort. The family and multi-generation hub covers the wider planning.

      Questions travellers ask

Does a resort on the shortlist mean my family can book the room we want?
No. The shortlist ranks resorts on reported family features and transfers. Room eligibility depends on the villa category, the number of adults, children and infants, and each resort's age rules. Use the question list and get the answer in writing from the resort or your provider before paying.
Why are some resorts left out completely?
A resort is removed if its transfer is outside your limit, its price tier is not one you ticked, or it is confirmed as adults only and you have children. Resorts reported, but not confirmed, as adults only stay in with a caution. Widen the transfer or tier to see more.
What does "Water villas may have a minimum age" mean?
Our file holds a children's policy note mentioning an age limit, and you have a child under 12. Many resorts keep some water villas for older children or adults only because of open decks and ladders into the lagoon. Ask which villa categories accept your children's ages.
Is a seaplane a problem for grandparents?
Not usually, but boarding means steps onto a floating platform and a small aircraft. If you tick grandparents or limited mobility, seaplane resorts get a caution and a question about boarding assistance. Speedboat resorts near Male avoid this, and the short-transfer option favours them.
