MaldivesQuest corrections log for outdated resort rates and taxes

This is the public record of corrections and significant updates to taxes, entry rules and prices on MaldivesQuest. Each entry shows the date, what changed and the source.

Use these figures when you check a quotation. All were confirmed against official sources on 11 October 2026.

Log entries

11 October 2026: Tourism GST rate set at 17%

What changed: Pages and the cost calculator use 17% Tourism GST, the rate effective 1 July 2025. Older pages and rate sheets online may still show 16%, the rate before that date.

Effect: With a 10% service charge applied first, taxes now add about 28.7% to a pre-tax room rate (1.10 x 1.17 = 1.287), compared with about 27.6% at 16%.

11 October 2026: Green Tax set at the 2025 rates

What changed: Pages use the Green Tax rates effective 1 January 2025: USD 12 per guest per night at resorts and larger properties, and USD 6 at registered hotels and guesthouses on inhabited islands with 50 rooms or fewer. Children under 2 are exempt.

Effect: For two adults on a 4-night resort stay, Green Tax is USD 96 (12 x 2 x 4), about RM393 at RM4.09 per USD.

11 October 2026: IMUGA declaration timing

What changed: Pages state that the IMUGA traveller declaration is free, needed for every traveller including infants, and submitted no earlier than 96 hours before arrival. A departure declaration is no longer needed.

Why: Several third-party sites still quote 72-hour or 48-hour windows, or mention a departure declaration. Both are outdated.

11 October 2026: Passport validity

What changed: Pages state at least 1 month of passport validity beyond the stay, the rule on the official immigration page. Some secondary sites say 6 months, which is not the Maldives requirement.

11 October 2026: Mid-range resort room band revised

What changed: The mid-range resort beach villa benchmark is now USD 300 to 550 per room per night for 4-star and USD 500 to 1,100 for 5-star, before taxes. Earlier research used a single band of USD 350 to 700.

11 October 2026: Published package prices refreshed

What changed: Several published Malaysian package prices were updated after rechecking:

• 12Fly Maafushi package: RM1,976 to RM1,996, now valid 1 October 2026 to 31 October 2027.
• 12Fly Hard Rock package: RM4,516 to RM3,676.
• AF Travel Le Meridien Thilamaafushi 4D3N: 2027 rates added, RM7,936 to RM8,956 per adult twin share.
• Cheapest KUL to MLE return fare observed: RM1,172.23 to RM1,155.42.

Note: Several HolidayGoGoGo packages are valid only to 31 October 2026 and are due for recheck in November 2026.

11 October 2026: Unverified seaplane price withdrawn from use

What changed: A Westin seaplane transfer figure of USD 620 could not be re-verified on the official page, so it is no longer quoted as current. Seaplane costs on our pages use the scenario allowances described in the methodology.
