Worth knowing

  • Speedboat transfer of about 45 minutes can be bumpy in rough seas

Adaaran Club Rannalhi is the most straightforward resort in the Adaaran group: a beach-side, all-inclusive island reached by speedboat.

This page is part of our resort directory. For room categories and transfer questions in more detail, see Rannalhi villa types, meals and transfers.

What kind of resort is Rannalhi?

It is a value all-inclusive resort with beach-side rooms rather than a luxury villa island. Adaaran is part of Sri Lanka's Aitken Spence group, which runs five Maldives resorts.

The official site lists two room types, both 38 m2: Classic Ocean View Rooms and Classic Beach View Rooms, 48 of each. That is a compact, hotel-style layout compared with resorts built around private villas.

The plan is All Inclusive, one step below the Premium All Inclusive sold at the group's other resorts. For a Malaysian couple, that means most food and drink is paid upfront, which makes the budget easier to predict.

How does the transfer work?

Transfer is by speedboat from Velana International Airport, about 45 minutes according to the official site. No seaplane is needed, so evening and cloudy-day arrivals are easier than at seaplane resorts.

Forty-five minutes is long enough to feel the swell in rougher months. The southwest monsoon (about May to November) brings choppier seas, so take seasickness tablets if you are prone.

With an AirAsia arrival at about 09:50 or Malaysia Airlines at about 11:25, you should reach the island by early afternoon. Our airport transfer guide explains speedboat versus seaplane in more detail.

What is included in the all-inclusive plan?

The official site lists buffet meals at the main restaurant, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at the bars, and daily light snacks. It also lists non-motorised water sports such as snorkelling, windsurfing and paddleboarding, plus evening entertainment.

Book-direct guests are offered extras, including a sunset photo cruise for stays of three nights or more and USD 50 spa credit per person. These are offers, not fixed inclusions, so check they apply to the rate you are quoted.

Facilities named on the official page include a main buffet restaurant, a cocktail bar, a cafe, a spa and a Chinese reflexology centre.

Is the snorkelling good?

The official site promotes a house reef, highlighting nudibranch sightings, and snorkel gear is available. That makes Rannalhi a reasonable pick for snorkellers who want reef access without paying for boat trips every day.

We could not confirm reef condition, entry points or current strength. Ask the resort where the easiest entry is for beginners and children.

Is Rannalhi right for your trip?

Use this as a quick decision rule.

TravellerFitWhy
Value-minded coupleGoodAll-inclusive, short speedboat, house reef
Family with under-12sGoodBook-direct child-free offer (April to October bookings); no kids club listed
Honeymooners wanting a pool villaWeakOnly Classic rooms are listed; consider Adaaran Prestige Vadoo
Friends groupGoodDrinks included, entertainment programme
Muslim travellersCheckNo halal statement; alcohol is part of the plan
Older travellersGoodNo seaplane, compact island; confirm room access

Families should note the child offer is a book-direct promotion with dates attached. If you are quoted through an agent, ask whether the same child terms apply.

Honeymooners who want privacy and their own pool will find more at Adaaran Prestige Vadoo, which is adults-only.

What should you ask before booking?

  • Which room category is confirmed, ocean view or beach view, and is the bed king or twin?
  • Is the speedboat transfer included in the quote, and what is the last departure time?
  • Does the child offer apply to your booking channel and dates?
  • Which meals or dishes are halal, and is pork on the buffet?
  • Who runs diving, and what does it cost?
  • Is the rate quoted before or after 10% service charge, 17% Tourism GST and USD 12 Green Tax per person per night?

Taxes add about 28.7% to a pre-tax room rate before Green Tax. Use the trip cost calculator to see the full ringgit figure once you have a quote.

How does a typical stay at Rannalhi run?

A sample 4D3N trip on the AirAsia flight shows how the days fall.

DayPlan
Day 1Land about 09:50, speedboat about 45 minutes, lunch on the island
Day 2House reef snorkel in the morning, paddleboard or windsurf later
Day 3Optional excursion or spa, sunset cruise if included
Day 4Breakfast, speedboat back for the return flight

Allow at least three hours between landing back at Velana and your flight home.

Questions travellers ask

Is Adaaran Club Rannalhi halal?
The official site does not make a halal statement, so do not assume the whole kitchen is halal. Ask the resort in writing which dishes are halal, whether pork is served at the buffet, and whether they can prepare meals separately. Alcohol is included in the plan, so expect it at the bars.
Does Adaaran Club Rannalhi have water villas?
The official page mentions overwater villas in its introduction, but the room list it publishes shows only Classic Ocean View and Classic Beach View rooms. Until the resort confirms bookable overwater categories, plan on a beach-side room. If an overwater villa matters to you, Adaaran Prestige Vadoo is the group's all-overwater option.
Can I reach Rannalhi if I land on the Batik Air evening flight?
Speedboats run after dark more readily than seaplanes, but late transfers depend on the resort's schedule. Batik Air lands at about 21:55. Ask the resort whether it will run a night speedboat for your arrival time and what it charges, or plan a night in Hulhumale.
Is diving available at Rannalhi?
The official page refers to diving and snorkelling but does not name a dive centre. South Male Atoll has well-known channel dives, so diving is likely possible, but confirm who operates it, prices and certification requirements before you rely on it.
