How MaldivesQuest builds its Maldives price ranges in ringgit

You have seen a ringgit range on a MaldivesQuest page and want to know exactly how it was calculated before you budget around it.

Quick answer

Our price ranges are research-based planning estimates per person, twin sharing, for 4 nights from KLIA. They combine dated room benchmarks, published package prices, official tax rates (17% Tourism GST, 10% service charge, Green Tax of USD 6 or 12) and a stated USD/MYR rate, currently RM4.09 per USD as of 7 October 2026. They are not quotations.

Our ringgit price ranges are planning estimates built from dated evidence, official tax rates and a stated exchange rate. This page shows every input so you can check a figure or rebuild it with your own numbers.

The headline answer for most readers is on how much a Maldives trip costs from Malaysia. This page is the method behind it, part of the trust and transaction clarity hub.

The standard basis

Unless a page says otherwise, a MaldivesQuest range means:

  • per person, two adults twin sharing;
  • 4 nights, flights included, return economy from KLIA;
  • transfers, taxes, Green Tax, meals and a contingency included;
  • researched on 11 October 2026, at RM4.09 per USD.

Ground packages (usually 3 nights, flights excluded) are always kept separate from complete trips, and labelled as such.

The five planning tiers

TierRM per personWhat the range assumes
Local-island simple3,000 to 6,500Local guesthouse, shared boat, basic meals, modest excursions
Comfortable local island4,500 to 8,500Nicer guesthouse, more water excursions, transfer variability
Beach-villa resort6,500 to 16,000Resort beach villa, transfer, meals, taxes
Water-villa resort11,000 to 30,000Water villa, seaplane in some cases, meals, taxes
Ultra-luxury, private pool22,000 to 60,000Premium pool villa, resort transfer, discretionary spending

All tiers are 4 nights, twin sharing, with KUL return economy flights. The top tier is open ended: RM60,000 per person is a planning marker, not a ceiling.

Room bands we use

Room bands are per room per night, for two adults, before taxes. They are market brackets, checked on 11 October 2026.

Room typeUSD per room per nightExcludes
Local-island guesthouse double60 to 180Service charge, Tourism GST, Green Tax, transfer
4-star resort beach villa300 to 550Taxes, Green Tax, meals, transfer
5-star resort beach villa500 to 1,100Taxes, Green Tax, meals, transfer
High-end overwater villa800 to 1,800Taxes, Green Tax, board, transfer

Pool water villas were quoted at USD 1,500 to 3,000 on the same benchmark page, which is why the top tier runs so wide.

How taxes are applied

When a room rate excludes taxes, we add the 10% service charge first and then 17% Tourism GST on top. Together that multiplies the pre-tax rate by 1.287 (1.10 x 1.17).

Green Tax is then added per guest per night: USD 12 at resorts and larger properties, USD 6 at registered guesthouses on inhabited islands with 50 rooms or fewer. Children under 2 are exempt. Both rates are from MIRA circulars, effective 1 January 2025 for Green Tax and 1 July 2025 for the 17% GST rate.

A worked scenario you can check

Scenario SC-01 is a budget guesthouse on Maafushi, two adults, 4 nights from KLIA.

This scenario file uses an illustrative rate of RM4.0855 per USD from when the scenarios were built. At today's RM4.09 the dollar lines rise by about RM1 to RM2 in total, which does not change the tier.

Where the USD/MYR rate comes from

We use RM4.09 per USD, from the Business Today Malaysia daily foreign exchange table dated 7 October 2026. The Maldivian rufiyaa reference of about MVR 15.42 per USD comes from market quotes, not a Maldives Monetary Authority page, so we use it only for context.

Your bank or card will apply its own rate and fees on the day you pay, which can differ by a few percent.

Where price evidence comes from

Package prices come from published Malaysian agency pages, recorded with travel dates, inclusions, exclusions and the date checked. Room benchmarks come from dated third-party market brackets, and taxes from MIRA.

When an offer expires, the figure is rechecked or removed. Changes that matter to planners are recorded in the corrections log, and the difference between research and a firm price is explained in how we distinguish package research from a bookable quotation.

Run your own numbers

Use the trip cost calculator to swap in your own fare, room rate, nights and exchange rate. It applies the same tax order and Green Tax rules shown here.

What moves a trip between tiers

Three lines do most of the work. The room rate and transfer type set the tier, and the meal plan decides where in the tier you land.

In our scenarios, a seaplane transfer (RM2,533 per person) costs about RM1,800 more than a speedboat transfer (RM735 per person). School holidays and festive dates push room rates up, and an evening arrival may add a night in Hulhumale before a seaplane transfer.

Questions travellers ask

Why use 4 nights as the standard?
Most complete Malaysian Maldives trips, flights included, run to about 4 nights, while ground packages usually quote 3 nights. Using one standard length makes tiers comparable. For a different length, scale the room, Green Tax and meal lines by nights, and keep the flight line the same.
Why does your range differ from a package price I saw?
Packages often exclude flights, cover 3 nights, or already include taxes and transfers. Our ranges include flights and use 4 nights. Check the package's basis line by line against ours. A ground package of RM2,319 for 3 nights at a Maafushi guesthouse, flights excluded, sits inside our local-island tier once flights and extras are added.
How often is the exchange rate updated?
The rate is recorded with its source and date, and refreshed when pages are reviewed or when the ringgit moves enough to change a tier noticeably. The current rate is RM4.09 per USD from the Business Today Malaysia daily exchange table of 7 October 2026.
Are children priced in these ranges?
No, the tiers assume two adults twin sharing. Children under 2 are exempt from Green Tax, and child pricing for rooms, meals and transfers varies by resort. For a family trip, send a brief or use the calculator with your own numbers.
