Quick answer

For two people on 4 nights at a small Hanimaadhoo guesthouse, room, taxes and Green Tax come to about RM1,880 to RM3,350 for the couple, using published rates of USD 80 to 150 per night. • Swimwear only on the designated bikini beach or a hotel's private beach area
  • Few restaurants outside guesthouses; ask about meal plans

A Hanimaadhoo stay is cheap to sleep and costly to reach. The domestic flight is the line that decides whether it fits your budget.

What do 4 nights cost for two, before flights?

Room, service charge, GST and Green Tax come to about USD 460 to USD 820 for the couple, or RM1,880 to RM3,350. The table uses Himeyn Beach Inn's published rates as an example.

How much does the domestic flight add?

It adds about RM3,580 for two people return, on one snapshot. One aggregator showed about EUR 193, around USD 219, one way for a December 2026 date.

USD 219 x 2 people x 2 ways = USD 876, or about RM3,583. As a wider planning range, immaldives puts domestic flight transfers to distant atolls at about USD 350 to 520 per adult return. Since Hanimaadhoo has no boat leg, expect the lower part of that range.

A 4-night example per person, with flights

Here is the low-season standard room for one person sharing a room.

  1. Room and taxes: USD 412 / 2 = USD 206.
  2. Green Tax: USD 6 x 4 = USD 24.
  3. Domestic flight return: USD 438.
  4. Subtotal: USD 668, or about RM2,732.
  5. Add the cheapest KUL return seen on 11 Oct 2026, RM1,155: about RM3,887.
  6. Add meals and one or two trips at about USD 60 a day for 4 days: USD 240, or about RM982.

That puts a 4-night Hanimaadhoo trip at roughly RM4,870 per person. The meals and trips line is our planning assumption, not a quote.

What moves the number most

  • The domestic fare: book early and compare dates, since it is the biggest single line.
  • Nights: the flight cost is fixed, so 6 nights cost far less per night than 3.
  • Season: Himeyn Beach Inn's high-season rates are about USD 20 to 30 a night higher.
  • Room type: a family room for four can be cheaper per person than two doubles.
  • Larger hotels may charge USD 12 Green Tax rather than USD 6.

The Green Tax explainer covers who pays. Run your own figures in the trip cost calculator.

Ways to keep the cost down

  • Stay at least 5 nights so the flight is spread over more days.
  • Travel May to October, when published guesthouse rates are lower.
  • Ask your guesthouse to book the flight and pickup together, in writing.
  • Take half board if the price is fair, since cafes are few.
  • Share boat trips with other guests.

Paying on the island

Plan to settle most extras in US dollars. Bank of Maldives opened a rufiyaa ATM on the island in August 2025 and a US dollar ATM at the airport in November 2025, but small guesthouses may prefer cash.

A practical approach is to bring enough US dollars in small notes for meals and trips, and keep a card for the final room bill if the guesthouse accepts it. Ask whether a card surcharge applies. Ringgit is not usable on the island.

A 6-night version for comparison

Stretching the trip shows why longer stays suit Hanimaadhoo. Using the same low-season standard room, 6 nights cost USD 618 for the room with taxes and USD 72 Green Tax for two, or USD 690.

Add the same USD 876 domestic flights for two and the total is USD 1,566, about RM6,405. That works out to about RM534 per person per night, against about RM683 on the 4-night version (USD 460 plus USD 876, about RM5,464, over 8 person-nights).

Who this budget suits

It suits couples and small groups with 5 nights or more who want quiet and space. On a 3-night trip, the flight takes too big a share, and a speedboat island like Maafushi stretches the ringgit further.

The Hanimaadhoo island guide explains who the island fits.

Questions travellers ask

Is Hanimaadhoo more expensive than Maafushi?
The room can cost about the same, but the transfer costs far more. Maafushi's shared speedboat is about USD 25 per person each way, while the Hanimaadhoo domestic flight was about USD 219 one way on our snapshot. On a 4-night trip for two, that gap is well over RM3,000, so Hanimaadhoo suits longer stays.
Does The Barefoot Eco Hotel cost more than a guesthouse?
It is a larger property with a pool, private beach and dive centre, so expect a higher rate than a five-room guesthouse. We did not find a dated official rate to quote. Ask for the total per night with service charge, GST and Green Tax, and check whether the transfer is included, which one tour operator states.
Is Green Tax lower at The Barefoot Eco Hotel?
Green Tax is USD 6 per guest per night at inhabited-island hotels and guesthouses with 50 rooms or fewer, and USD 12 at larger properties. Barefoot has been listed with 52 to 64 rooms, so it may charge USD 12. Ask the hotel which rate applies.
Are meals included in these numbers?
No. The room rates used here are room-only or bed and breakfast depending on the booking, and Himeyn Beach Inn states that some meals, transfers and excursions cost extra. Ask about half board, since outside restaurants are few on Hanimaadhoo.
