What does a holiday on Himmafushi cost?

A Himmafushi holiday is one of the cheaper ways to see the Maldives from Malaysia, because the transfer is short and guesthouse taxes are lower than at resorts. The numbers below show exactly what goes into the bill.

What goes into a Himmafushi bill?

Five items make up the core cost: the room, a 10% service charge, 17% Tourism GST, Green Tax, and the speedboat. Flights, meals and trips come on top.

Two Himmafushi listings in a 2026 guide start from about USD 80 per night. We use USD 80 to 150 as a planning range for a decent double; this is not a quote.

Worked example: two adults, 3 nights

Here is the arithmetic for one room, two adults, 3 nights, at RM 4.09 per USD. Rounded to the nearest ringgit.

Breakfast is often included in guesthouse rates, but not always. Check before you compare listings.

Adding flights from Malaysia

The cheapest KUL to Male return we saw was about RM 1,155 per person in a Traveloka snapshot on 11 Oct 2026. Low-cost fares usually exclude checked baggage.

At the USD 80 room, a 3-night trip with that fare comes to about RM 869 + RM 1,155 = RM 2,024 per person before meals and trips. School holiday dates, Malaysia Airlines fares and baggage push this up.

What changes with 4 nights?

Each extra night adds the room, its taxes and Green Tax. At USD 80, one more night costs USD 80 + 8 + 14.96 + 12 = USD 114.96, about RM 470 for the couple.

So a 4-night stay at USD 80 totals about USD 539.84, or about RM 2,208 for two before flights.

Meals, surf, dives and other extras

These are the costs that vary most between travellers. Figures are from a 2026 island guide and the dive centre's 2025 list; confirm current prices.

A snorkelling or sandbank trip is sold by guesthouses and local operators; ask for the price per person and whether the boat fee is included.

What moves the number most?

The room rate and your activity plan move the total far more than the transfer. A pool guesthouse at USD 150 adds about RM 1,100 over 3 nights against a USD 80 room.

Surf and dive days add up quickly. Choosing the public ferry instead of the speedboat saves about USD 72 for two people return, about RM 294, but costs time and needs a Male stop.

Worked example: family of four, 3 nights

Two adults and two children aged 6 and 10 in one family room at USD 120 per night before tax. This is a planning figure inside the 2026 benchmark band, not a quote.

The room is USD 360, plus USD 36 service and USD 67.32 GST, so USD 463.32. Green Tax is 4 guests x 3 nights x USD 6 = USD 72. Speedboats at about USD 20 per person each way add USD 160, assuming children pay the full fare; ask about child rates.

That totals USD 695.32, about RM 2,844 for the family before flights, meals and trips. Four KUL return fares at the RM 1,155 snapshot would add about RM 4,620.

How to keep the cost down

• Book rooms early for Malaysian school holidays and the December to April high season.
• Compare rates on the same basis: room only or with breakfast, taxes included or not.
• Share a private boat with friends if you land late, instead of paying for a hotel night.
• Bundle two or three trips with one operator and ask for a package price.
• Carry small US dollar notes so you are not paying card fees on every small bill.
