Why a Maldives price in a blog is not a bookable 2026 quotation

You saw a Maldives price in a blog or video and want to know how close it is to what you would actually pay.

Last reviewed 12 October 2026Prices researched 12 October 20263 min

Quick answer

A blog price is a snapshot: it has a date, a room, a basis and a set of inclusions that may not match your trip. Since 2025 the Green Tax doubled and GST rose to 17%, so older figures understate the total. On our sample three-night resort stay, re-pricing a 2024-style figure under 2026 tax rules adds about RM201. Only a written quote with your dates, names and inclusions is bookable.

Key facts

  • Tourism GST

    17%

    From 1 July 2025, was 16%

  • Resort Green Tax

    USD 12

    From 1 Jan 2025, was USD 6

  • Package validity seen

    Many end 31 Oct 2026

HolidayGoGoGo listings checked 11 Oct 2026

Why can't you book the price you saw in a blog?

Because it describes someone else's trip on another date, under the tax rules of that time. It is useful as a guide to the range, but it is not an offer you can accept.

A bookable quotation names your dates, your guests, your room, what is included and how long the price holds. For how prices are built, see our Budget and Real Cost hub.

Five reasons published prices drift

1. Taxes changed in 2025. Green Tax at resorts went from USD 6 to USD 12 per guest per night on 1 January 2025, and tourism GST from 16% to 17% on 1 July 2025 (MIRA circulars).

2. Packages expire. Several HolidayGoGoGo packages checked on 11 Oct 2026, including the RM2,319 Arena Beach 4D3N, were valid only to 31 Oct 2026. After that, a new price applies.

3. From-prices move. 12Fly's Hard Rock 4D3N from-price was RM4,516 in our earlier ledger and RM3,676 when checked on 11 Oct 2026. Its Maafushi package moved from RM1,976 to RM1,996.

4. Fares are dynamic. The cheapest KUL to Male return on Traveloka was about RM1,155 on 11 Oct 2026, against RM1,172 a little earlier.

5. The basis may differ. Per person or per room, flights in or out, taxes in or out, all change the number by thousands of ringgit.

Worked example: re-pricing an older resort figure

Take a blog figure built in 2024 for a USD 400 room, three nights, two adults. It used 10% service, 16% GST and the old USD 6 Green Tax.

Line2024 rules2026 rules
Room, 3 nightsUSD 1,200.00USD 1,200.00
Service and GST multiplierx 1.276x 1.287
Room with taxUSD 1,531.20USD 1,544.40
Green Tax, 2 guests, 3 nightsUSD 36.00USD 72.00
TotalUSD 1,567.20USD 1,616.40

Same room, same rate, about RM201 more, purely from tax rules. In practice the room rate itself has often moved too.

What makes a price a quotation

A useful quotation answers every line in this checklist. If a figure is missing one, it is a guide, not a quote.

  • Travel dates and number of nights
  • Names or at least ages of every traveller
  • Room or villa category and how many rooms
  • Price basis: per person twin share, per room, or total
  • Currency and, for USD, who bears the exchange rate
  • Inclusions: flights, transfers, meals, excursions, Green Tax, service charge, GST
  • Exclusions, such as festive gala dinners or excess baggage
  • Validity of the quote and when it must be accepted
  • Deposit, balance date and cancellation terms

Our quote inclusions comparison tool helps line two quotes up against this list.

How to use blog prices well

Use them to shortlist. A blog price tells you whether a resort is in the RM4,000 or RM15,000 range per couple, and that is useful early.

Then check the date, the basis and the inclusions. If the article predates 2025, mentally add the tax difference shown above, and treat the figure as a minimum.

Finally, ask for a current quote on the same basis. Our page on checking whether a quote includes all taxes shows what to look for.

How MaldivesQuest prices should be read

Every price on this site carries its source, basis and the date we checked it. They are planning figures, not offers, and we update the evidence when listings change.

We help people plan and pass trip briefs to a travel provider for quotations once one is appointed. A price becomes bookable only when that provider issues a written quote for your trip.

Who is most affected by stale prices

Budget travellers feel it most, because a few hundred ringgit can decide between two islands. Families feel it through Green Tax, which rises with every guest over age two.

Honeymooners at high-end resorts feel it less in percentage terms but more in ringgit. For everyone, run fresh numbers in the trip cost calculator before setting a budget.

Questions travellers ask

Are the prices on MaldivesQuest bookable?
No. Our figures are dated research observations and worked examples to help you plan and compare. They show the basis and date so you can judge them. A bookable price comes only as a written quotation from a travel provider for your exact dates and party.
How old is too old for a Maldives price?
Anything from before 2025 understates taxes. Beyond that, treat any package price older than its stated validity date as expired, and any from-price older than a few weeks as indicative only. Fares and resort rates can move within days around holidays.
Why do from-prices rarely match my quote?
A from-price is usually the lowest room, cheapest dates and full occupancy, sometimes excluding taxes or transfers. Your quote reflects your actual dates, room choice and party size, which are rarely the cheapest combination.
Can I ask an agency to honour a price I saw online?
You can ask, but a listing is an invitation to enquire, not an offer. If the listing is still live and your dates fall inside its validity, the agency may match it. Screenshots with the date help the conversation.
