The shared speedboat is the practical way to reach Fulidhoo. It is quick enough to arrive on the same day as a morning flight from Kuala Lumpur, as long as you aim for the afternoon boat.
This page covers the boat options, the times reported in 2025 and 2026, and which flights from Malaysia connect. For the island itself, see the Fulidhoo island guide, and for other transfers, the transfers and travel logistics hub.
Your options at a glance
The shared speedboat suits almost everyone. The ferry suits flexible budget travellers, and a private boat suits groups or late arrivals.
| Option | Time | Reported cost | Runs | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shared speedboat | About 1h10 to 1h30 | About USD 40 pp one way | Twice daily, once on Fridays | Most travellers |
| Public ferry | About 3.5 to 4 hours | A few US dollars pp | A few days a week | Flexible, low budgets |
| Private speedboat | About 1 hour | USD 300 to 500 quoted by one source, basis unclear | On request | Groups, late arrivals |
Fares and times come from travel guides and booking listings dated 2025 to 2026, not an official timetable. Confirm with your guesthouse before you book flights.
The shared speedboat in detail
A 2025 travel guide reports departures from Male at about 10:00 and 16:00, and from Fulidhoo at about 07:30 and 13:30. On Fridays it reports a single boat each way, about 09:30 from Male and about 07:00 from Fulidhoo.
The same guide and a dive centre listing both give about USD 40 per person each way. A 2026 booking guide gives a wider USD 40 to 65 range, so check the price at booking.
Your guesthouse usually books the seat and adds the fare to your bill. Ask which airport jetty to meet the boat at.
Which flights from Malaysia connect?
Morning arrivals connect with the 16:00 boat. The evening arrival does not.
| Flight from KUL | Lands Male (local time) | Same-day boat? |
|---|---|---|
| AirAsia | About 09:50 | Yes, 16:00 boat with a long wait, or 10:00 only if very lucky |
| Malaysia Airlines | About 11:25 | Yes, 16:00 boat |
| Batik Air | About 21:55 | No, stay near the airport |
Fridays are the trap. With only a morning boat reported, a Friday arrival usually means a night in Hulhumale. The flight arrival and transfer buffer planner helps you test your own times.
The public ferry
A slow public ferry links Male and Fulidhoo a few days a week, taking about 3.5 to 4 hours. Guides describe it leaving from the Male city ferry terminal, a taxi ride from the airport, with tickets bought on the day and fares paid in cash.
This ferry also calls at Maafushi, which makes a two-island trip cheap. The days are covered in moving between Maafushi and Fulidhoo.
Ferry times and exact fares are left out here, because no official timetable was reachable and guides disagree. Ask your guesthouse which days the ferry runs in your travel week.
Going home: plan the last morning
Return boats are reported at about 07:30 and 13:30, or about 07:00 only on Fridays. Leave at least three hours between the boat's arrival and your flight.
- AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines return flights leave Male around midday to early afternoon, so the 07:30 boat is the safe choice.
- The Batik Air flight leaves late at night, so the 13:30 boat works with time to spare.
- On a Friday, take the early boat whatever your flight.
A worked example for two
A couple on Malaysia Airlines lands at about 11:25 on a Tuesday. They clear immigration, buy a local SIM, eat at the airport and take the 16:00 boat, reaching Fulidhoo before sunset.
Their return boat at about 07:30 reaches Male in good time for the early afternoon flight home. The return speedboat costs USD 40 x 2 people x 2 ways = USD 160, about RM 654 at RM 4.09 per USD.
Questions to send your guesthouse before you book flights
A short message settles the details that guides cannot. Copy and adapt this:
- Which shared speedboat times run on my arrival and departure dates, and is Friday different?
- What is the current fare per person, and is it added to the room bill or paid in cash?
- Which airport jetty does the boat leave from, and who meets us there?
- If our flight is delayed, what happens, and what does a private boat cost per boat?
- Does the public ferry run on our dates, if we want to use it for a move to or from Maafushi?
Keep the written reply. It is your best reference if anything changes on the day.
Who this route suits, and when to rethink
The two-boat schedule suits travellers with morning flights and at least 3 nights. Families with toddlers and older travellers should pick calm-season dates and avoid the earliest return boat if they can.
If you land late, fly on a Friday or have only 2 nights, an island closer to the airport, such as Maafushi, gives you more time on the beach. Budget the transfer with the Fulidhoo cost guide.
Questions travellers ask
Can I book the Fulidhoo speedboat myself?
What happens if my flight is delayed and I miss the boat?
Is the Fulidhoo speedboat rough?
How much luggage can I take?
