What are the five package types sold in Malaysia?
Most offers fall into one of these formats. The price examples below are from published Malaysian agency pages checked on 11 Oct 2026, per person, twin sharing, unless stated.

Advertised "from" prices are the lowest room on the lowest date. Ask which date and room that figure applies to.
How do I compare two packages fairly?
Put both on the same basis before you look at price. Use this five-line check:
- Nights and room. 4D3N means 3 nights. Confirm the room or villa type for each night.
- Transfer. Speedboat, domestic flight or seaplane, shared or private. A shared seaplane alone can be USD 400 to 820 per adult return.
- Meals. Breakfast, half board, full board or all-inclusive, and whether drinks are included.
- Taxes. Service charge, 17% Tourism GST and Green Tax should be listed as included.
- Exclusions. Flights, festive gala dinners, insurance and paid activities are the usual items left out.

Worked example: adding flights to a ground package
Take the Arena Beach Maafushi package at RM2,319 per person, twin sharing, flights excluded. Add the cheapest return KUL to Male fare seen on 11 Oct 2026, RM1,155.42 per passenger.
That gives about RM3,474 per person before checked baggage, tips and travel insurance. For a couple, it is roughly RM6,950 for 4D3N.

When does a fixed package suit you, and when does a custom quote?
A fixed package suits you if its dates, room type and meal plan already match what you want. It is quick to book and the inclusions are written down.
A custom quote works better when your situation does not fit a template. Common cases are:
- You fly Batik Air and land around 21:55, too late for a seaplane, so you need a Male or Hulhumale night first.
- You are a family with children whose ages change the room type and child rates.
- You want to split nights between a local island and a resort, or between two resorts.
- You travel in Malaysian school holidays, when fixed packages often carry surcharges.

What should I check before paying a deposit?
Check the seller first, then the paperwork. Look up the agency on the MOTAC licence search, because operating a travel business without a licence is an offence under the Tourism Industry Act 1992.
Then ask for a written quotation that names the property, room type, dates, meal plan, transfer type and every tax. Confirm how long the quote is valid and what happens if the resort's price changes before full payment.

Which package type suits which traveller?
- Budget travellers and friend groups: a local island ground package, from about RM2,319 per person before flights.
- Honeymooners: a resort or twin island package with a water villa night, see requesting a honeymoon package.
