To request a Maldives family package from Malaysia, give each child's exact age on the travel date, your dates, the rooms you need and your flight. Ages decide room rules, child rates, Green Tax and transfer prices, so they matter more than anything else in a family quote.
This page sits in our packages and quotations hub. For a full budget, see the trip cost for a family of four.
How do children's ages change a Maldives quote?
Each age band can change a different line of the quote. This table shows what to expect and what to ask.
| Child's age | Green Tax | Transfer | Room | What to ask |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 2 | Exempt | Often free or token charge | Cot in parents' villa | Is a cot included, and baby food available? |
| 2 to 11 | Full rate (USD 12 resort, USD 6 guesthouse, per night) | Often about 30 to 40% less on seaplanes | Extra bed or sharing bed | Child meal plan price, kids club age range |
| 12 and over | Full rate | Often adult rate | May need own room | Is this an adult in the resort's eyes? |
Green Tax rules are from MIRA. The seaplane child discount is a 2026 benchmark from a transfer guide, so confirm each resort's own rate.
Worked example: two adults and one child at a guesthouse
The HolidayGoGoGo Arena Beach Maafushi 4D3N package lists RM2,319 per adult twin sharing and RM1,799 for a child sharing a bed. It is valid to 31 Oct 2026, flights excluded.
Two adults plus one child: (2 x RM2,319) + RM1,799 = RM6,437 for the ground package. Add three return fares at the RM1,155.42 low seen on 11 Oct 2026, about RM3,466, and the trip is near RM9,900 before baggage and insurance.
At a resort the numbers grow. A family water bungalow package at Adaaran Club Rannalhi was listed from RM4,989 per adult twin share for some 2026 dates, all-inclusive. Run your own figures in the trip cost calculator.
What should go in a family brief?
Copy this into your message and fill in what you know.
- Travellers: number of adults, and each child's age on the travel date.
- Dates: school holiday window, and how flexible you are.
- Flight: airline and arrival time in Male, if booked.
- Rooms: one family villa, two connecting rooms, or a guesthouse.
- Transfer: maximum time you are comfortable with for the children.
- Meals: full board or all-inclusive, halal food, any allergies.
- Kids' needs: kids club, shallow lagoon, cot, pram access.
- Budget: total for the family, and whether flights are included.
Which transfer and arrival time suit families?
A speedboat resort near Male keeps the travel day short, which matters with toddlers. AirAsia lands about 09:50 and Malaysia Airlines about 11:25, giving a full afternoon to settle in.
Seaplanes need you to land by about 15:30 and limit checked luggage to 20 kg per person on Trans Maldivian. Prams and baby gear count toward that, so ask the resort how they are handled.
If you fly Batik Air, landing about 21:55, plan a night in Hulhumale before moving on with sleepy children.
When are Malaysian school holidays a problem?
School holidays and year-end are the busiest times for Malaysian families. Family villas and connecting rooms sell out first and some packages add surcharges.
Send your brief three to six months ahead for these dates. Our page on family packages during Malaysian year-end holidays covers timing in more detail.
Which family setup suits which group?
- Toddlers and babies: a speedboat resort with a kids club and a shallow lagoon.
- School-age children who snorkel: a resort or local island with a good house reef or guided trips.
- Budget families with teens: a local island guesthouse, with a resort day pass if you want pool time.
- Grandparents joining: short transfers and ground-floor rooms, see the multi-generational group quote.
Check entry rules for each child in Maldives entry requirements for Malaysian children. Prices here change often, so confirm current rates when you enquire.
What should a good family quote show?
A clear family quote lists adult and child prices on separate lines for the room, meals, transfers and Green Tax. It names the exact room or villa and confirms that the resort accepts your group in it.
Ask for the cot, extra bed and any child meal plan to be written in, not promised verbally. If the kids club has an age range, the quote should say whether your children fall inside it.
