Rasdhoo guesthouses: how to choose where to stay

Rasdhoo has more guesthouse choice than most small local islands, and many properties are tied to a dive operation. The right pick depends mostly on how much you plan to dive.

What accommodation is on Rasdhoo?

Rasdhoo has small guesthouses and a few larger hotels, but no resort on the island itself. A 2026 booking guide lists about 25 properties; we could not confirm that count against an official register.

Most have between 5 and 10 rooms with air-conditioning, private bathrooms and breakfast. A few are larger, such as one listed with 32 rooms.

Two resorts sit on neighbouring islands on the same reef, but they are separate, much more expensive stays rather than options on Rasdhoo itself.

The table shows properties listed in 2025 to 2026 sources, with the details given. It is a starting list for your own checks, not a ranking.

A planning price band

We found only one dated listed rate for a Rasdhoo guesthouse: about USD 80 per night at a 10-room property, in a 2026 listing. Wikivoyage's older listing puts basic guesthouses from about USD 40 to 50.

For planning, use about USD 50 to 120 per room per night before tax, with the upper end drawn from holiday.com.mv's local-island band of USD 60 to 180 (checked 11 Oct 2026). A USD 80 room becomes about USD 103 after 10% service and 17% GST (USD 80 x 1.287), plus Green Tax of USD 6 per guest per night.

How to shortlist by traveller type

Questions to ask before you pay a deposit

1. Does the rate include 10% service charge, 17% GST and Green Tax?
2. Which meal plans do you offer, and at what price per person per night?
3. Will you book the shared speedboat, and can it go on our bill?
4. If we dive, which centre do you work with, and what does a package of our number of dives cost?
5. Which cards do you accept, and is there a surcharge?
6. What are your tourism registration number and registered property name?
7. What happens to our booking if the speedboat is cancelled for weather?

Arriving and checking in

Send your flight number and preferred boat when you book. Shared speedboats usually need about 48 hours' notice, according to a 2026 island guide.

Hosts usually meet guests at the harbour. Ask about late check-out or a shower room if your return boat leaves after check-out time.

Red flags worth a second look

Most Rasdhoo guesthouses are small family businesses and run well. A few warning signs are still worth checking before you send money.

• The property name on the booking site differs from the name the host uses in messages.
• The host asks for full payment by personal bank transfer well before arrival.
• Photos show a pool, bar or beachfront that does not match the island's small village layout.
• The quote gives a single figure without saying whether taxes and Green Tax are included.
• Nobody can tell you which dive centre or boat operator they work with.

If anything looks off, ask for the registration number and pay through a known platform or with a card.

When a Rasdhoo guesthouse is not the right fit

If you want a pool, room service or a bar, a resort is the better choice. If you want a long beach more than diving, Ukulhas or Thoddoo usually suit you better.
