What does a holiday on Dhiffushi cost?

Dhiffushi appeals to you and you want to see what four nights really cost before you commit.

Last reviewed 12 October 2026Prices researched 12 October 20264 min

Quick answer

For two people on 4 nights, room, taxes, Green Tax and return transfers come to about RM 1,501 to RM 4,806 for the couple (about RM 751 to RM 2,403 each). The low end uses the MVR 22 public ferry and a USD 60 room; the high end uses a USD 180 room and a USD 50 speedboat seat. Add flights from KUL, seen from about RM 1,155 return per person in October 2026, plus meals and trips.

Good for

  • budget travellers

Worth knowing

  • The public ferry does not run on Fridays, and the return ferry leaves at about 06:30
  • Bank of Maldives reported ATM coverage on every inhabited Kaafu island from May 2025; still carry US dollars in small notes

Getting there from Male airport

  • shared speedboat: about 40 to 50 minutesReported at about USD 25 to 50 per person one way (aMaldives, 2026) and around USD 50 or more (A Social Nomad, Jan 2026). Confirm with your guesthouse
  • public ferry: about 2 to 3 hoursMVR 22 per person, cash (A Social Nomad, Jan 2026)

Four nights on Dhiffushi for a couple costs roughly RM 1,500 to RM 4,800 on the ground before meals, trips and flights. The two things that move the number most are the room you pick and whether you take the public ferry or the speedboat.

Prices change, so treat every figure here as a dated planning guide, checked 12 October 2026. For the wider picture, see the cost and budget hub and the Dhiffushi island guide.

What goes into a Dhiffushi budget?

Six items make up the bill. Some are fixed rules and some are reported prices.

Shared speedboatUSD 25 to 50Per person one way, reportedaMaldives, A Social Nomad

aMaldives gives the wider USD 25 to 50 speedboat range. A Social Nomad reports about USD 50 or more, so plan on the upper half.

Worked example: two adults, 4 nights

The arithmetic below uses RM 4.09 per USD and is rounded to the nearest dollar or ringgit.

  • Room at USD 60: 60 × 4 = 240, plus 10% service = 264, plus 17% GST = USD 309.
  • Room at USD 180: 180 × 4 = 720, plus 10% = 792, plus 17% = USD 927.
  • Green Tax: 6 × 2 people × 4 nights = USD 48.
  • Ferry: MVR 22 × 2 people × 2 ways, plus the airport-to-Male ferry both ways, comes to under USD 10.
  • Speedboat: USD 25 to 50 × 2 people × 2 ways = USD 100 to 200.

Adding flights, meals and trips

Flights from KUL started at about RM 1,155 return per person in a Traveloka search on 11 October 2026. Fares move daily, so treat that as a floor, not a promise.

For food and trips we use the planning allowances from our own cost scenarios, not Dhiffushi menus: about RM 420 to 620 per person for meals over 4 nights, and RM 350 to 720 per person for excursions. Hotelier Maldives reported island activities at about USD 30 to 50 each in 2022, which fits that range.

Both sit inside our planning tiers for a local island trip of RM 3,000 to 8,500 per person once you add a small buffer.

What moves the number

  • Friday travel: no public ferry, so you pay for the speedboat.
  • Room taxes: a "USD 60" room is really about USD 77 a night once service and GST are added.
  • Excursion count: two boat trips versus five can swing the bill by several hundred ringgit each.
  • School holidays: Malaysian school breaks overlap with the drier northeast monsoon from December, when rooms fill and rates rise.
  • Late arrival: a Batik Air evening landing often means a Hulhumale night, which adds a room you did not plan for.

For a couples-focused version with a resort night added, see the Dhiffushi honeymoon budget example.

Ways to spend less without spoiling the trip

The biggest saving is the transfer. If you land on a morning flight on any day except Friday, the public ferry can cut a couple's transfer bill from about USD 100 to 200 down to under USD 10.

The second saving is the room. Ask each guesthouse for a total price including service charge, GST and Green Tax, then compare like with like. A cheaper base rate with breakfast excluded can end up costing more than a slightly higher rate with breakfast included.

Third, use the free things. The tourist beaches and the house reef cost nothing, so you can keep paid boat trips to one or two that matter most, such as a sandbank picnic or a turtle snorkel.

Finally, avoid an unplanned Hulhumale night by choosing a flight that lands in the morning. Our Green Tax explainer shows how the per-night charge is collected.

Who this budget suits

The ferry scenario suits flexible adults with light bags. Families and older travellers usually pay the extra RM 370 to 780 per couple for the speedboat, since it saves most of an afternoon.

If you want the lowest possible transfer cost by speedboat, Maafushi's USD 25 fare is cheaper. If you want Dhiffushi's quiet beaches, the budget above is a fair planning base.

Questions travellers ask

Is Dhiffushi cheaper than Maafushi?
Rooms sit in a similar guesthouse band. The speedboat usually costs more, since Maafushi's shared boat is USD 25 per person each way. Dhiffushi wins if you can use the MVR 22 public ferry, which cuts the transfer to a few ringgit, but only on days other than Friday.
Does the room price include tax?
Often not. Many guesthouses quote a base rate, then add 10% service charge and 17% Tourism GST, plus Green Tax of USD 6 per guest per night. Booking sites sometimes include all of it. Ask for the total for your dates before you compare two properties.
Should I bring US dollars or ringgit?
Bring US dollars in small notes. Ringgit is not used on the island. Bank of Maldives reported ATM coverage on every inhabited Kaafu island from May 2025, but carry cash for a few days in case the machine is empty, since small shops and boat crews often take cash only.
Do children pay Green Tax?
Children under 2 are exempt. Everyone else pays USD 6 per night at guesthouses with 50 rooms or fewer. A family of two adults and a 5-year-old on 4 nights pays USD 72 in Green Tax.
