What does an all-inclusive private-island resort include?

All-inclusive sounds simple, but every Maldives resort writes its own list of what is in and what is out.

Last reviewed 12 October 2026Prices researched 11 October 20264 min

Quick answer

At most Maldives resorts, all-inclusive covers three meals a day at named restaurants, soft drinks and selected house alcohol, plus some non-motorised water sports. It often excludes the minibar, premium spirits, à la carte or signature restaurants, in-villa dining, diving, spa and many excursions. Premium all-inclusive tiers widen the list, so ask for the resort's written inclusions before you compare prices.

Key facts

  • Le Meridien package basis

    Full board plus non-alcoholic drinks

AF Travel, RM7,936 to 8,956 per adult twin share

  • Green Tax

    USD 12

    Usually charged separately unless stated

All-inclusive at a Maldives resort usually means your meals and a set list of drinks are prepaid. It rarely means everything on the island is free. Each resort publishes its own inclusions, and the exclusions are where bills grow.

This page explains what is usually in, what is often out, and gives a checklist to compare plans. The cost side is covered in all-inclusive versus full board cost comparison. More stay guides sit in the resorts and stay choices hub.

Why does all-inclusive matter more on a private island?

On a private island resort, there is nowhere else to eat. Every meal, coffee and bottle of water comes from the resort at resort prices, plus 10% service and 17% tourism GST.

That is why many guests choose a meal plan in advance. All-inclusive removes most daily bills, but only if the plan covers what you actually use.

What is usually included, and what is often excluded?

The table summarises common patterns from resort plans and published packages. It is a guide, not a rule for any one resort.

ItemStandard all-inclusivePremium all-inclusive

Non-motorised water sports (kayak, snorkel gear)Often includedIncluded

Diving, spa, motorised sportsExcludedUsually excluded, or one spa treatment

Real examples show the spread. Radisson Blu Maldives' plan is reported to exclude in-villa dining, private dinners, champagne and fresh juice. The Standard, Maldives launched a premium plan from May 2026 that adds all outlets, a stocked minibar, one 30-minute spa treatment and one excursion.

What do Malaysian packages include?

Malaysian agency packages often bundle a meal plan with transfers and taxes, so read the line items. HolidayGoGoGo's Adaaran Club Rannalhi package lists all-inclusive meals and drinks with return speedboat, from RM4,989 per adult twin sharing (checked 11 October 2026).

AF Travel's Le Meridien Thilamaafushi package is full board with all-inclusive non-alcoholic drinks, from RM7,936 to RM8,956 per adult twin sharing depending on dates. That suits Muslim travellers who want meals and drinks covered without paying for alcohol.

Inclusion checklist before you book

Ask for the resort's written inclusions and tick each line.

  • Which restaurants are covered for lunch and dinner?
  • Are à la carte dinners limited to a number per stay?
  • Which drinks and brands are covered, and at which bars?
  • Are drinks covered 24 hours or only during set hours?
  • Is the minibar included and restocked?
  • Is in-villa dining included?
  • Which excursions and water sports are included?
  • Are halal meals available within the plan?
  • Are Green Tax, service charge and GST included in the price?
  • What is the child rate by age band?

What does a day on all-inclusive actually look like?

A typical day starts with breakfast at the main restaurant, followed by snorkelling with resort gear and drinks at the beach bar. Lunch and dinner are at a covered restaurant, with house drinks at set bars.

The extras usually arrive in the evening. A themed dinner, a bottle of wine from the full list or a private beach dinner often sits outside the plan.

Ask at check-in for a printed summary of your plan. Many resorts give one, and it saves guessing when a staff member offers you something at the bar or restaurant.

How does all-inclusive affect taxes and Green Tax?

When you pay for all-inclusive, the meal plan price carries the same 10% service charge and 17% tourism GST as the room. Green Tax is charged separately per guest per night unless the quote states it is included.

Check that two quotes treat taxes the same way before you compare them. One quote may show a net price with everything included while another shows a lower rate before tax.

Who benefits most from all-inclusive?

Couples who drink alcohol and families with hungry teenagers often save the most. Guests who like to snack and order drinks through the day also gain from the simple budgeting.

Muslim travellers who do not drink alcohol often find full board, or a non-alcoholic all-inclusive plan, better value. The alcohol and all-inclusive guide explains how packages handle it.

When is a different plan better?

Half board or full board suits guests who eat lightly at lunch or plan full-day excursions. Breakfast only rarely works on a private island, because every other meal is at resort prices.

Questions travellers ask

Is alcohol always part of all-inclusive in the Maldives?
Not always. Many resort plans include house beer, wine and spirits, but some Malaysian agency packages are sold with non-alcoholic drinks only. Read the package wording. If you do not drink, ask whether a non-alcoholic all-inclusive or full board plan is cheaper.
Are transfers included in all-inclusive?
Usually not by default. Transfers are a separate charge at most resorts, though many Malaysian packages bundle them. Check the quote for the transfer type and whether it is return. Seaplane transfers can cost several hundred US dollars per adult, so this line matters.
Can children eat from the all-inclusive plan?
Children are usually added to the plan at a child rate, and some resorts offer free meals for young children under set ages. Policies vary widely, so ask the resort for the child meal plan rates by age band when you request a quote.
Does all-inclusive cover room service?
Often not, or only for a limited menu at set times. In-villa dining is a common exclusion, and some resorts add a delivery charge. If you plan to eat on your deck, ask whether in-villa dining is covered.
