Visa and entry

What if you enter incorrect information on IMUGA?

A typo on a government form feels alarming, but most IMUGA mistakes can be fixed calmly before you reach the airport.

Quick answer

Use the Edit option on the official IMUGA portal to correct the declaration, or submit a fresh one if editing is not possible. Passport number, name and date of birth errors matter most, because officers match them against your passport on arrival. The form is free, so a correction never costs money on the official site.

Key facts

  • Official portal

    imuga.immigration.gov.mv

  • Submission window

No earlier than 96 hours before arrival

  • Per traveller

    One form each, infants included

The short answer

Correct it on the official portal before you fly. The Maldives Immigration tourist visa page shows an Edit link for the Traveller Declaration, alongside the form itself (checked 12 Oct 2026).

The official page does not describe a formal amendment procedure. If the edit route does not work for your error, filing a new declaration with the correct details is the practical fix. The entry and travel paperwork hub lists the rest of the entry pages.

Which mistakes matter, and how much

Not every error carries the same weight. This triage table ranks common mistakes by how likely they are to cause a problem at Velana Airport.

Step-by-step correction

Follow these steps in order. They take a few minutes for one traveller.

  1. Open imuga.immigration.gov.mv directly, not through an advert or search link.
  2. Find your declaration through the Edit option and enter the reference details it asks for.
  3. Correct the field and save, then take a screenshot of the updated confirmation.
  4. If editing is not available, submit a new declaration with correct details, no earlier than 96 hours before arrival.
  5. Keep only the corrected confirmation on your phone for arrival.

Our official IMUGA step-by-step guide shows the form fields if you need to start again.

Noticed the mistake at the airport?

If you find the error at KLIA, try the portal on your phone before boarding. The flight is over four hours, so there is little chance to fix it in the air.

If you only notice on arrival, be open with the immigration officer. Show your passport, return ticket and booking, and explain the error. Officers make the final entry decision, so a calm explanation is the best approach.

Avoid paid "correction" services

The declaration is free. Maldives Immigration has warned about websites that charge for IMUGA, as reported by Edition.mv.

Some of these sites look official and offer to "fix" or "fast-track" a declaration. Read IMUGA scams and how to identify the official website before entering passport details anywhere.

Errors in a family or group form

Families often file several declarations in one sitting, which is where mix-ups happen. A child's passport number can end up on a parent's form, or two siblings' dates of birth can be swapped.

Check each confirmation against the matching passport before you close the browser. Lay the passports out in the same order as the forms you filed.

If one person's form is wrong, only that form needs fixing. The rest of the group's declarations stay as they are.

Group trip organisers, such as a company HR planner, should ask each traveller to file their own form and send a screenshot. That spreads the work and makes each person responsible for their own details.

When to contact Maldives Immigration

If the portal will not accept a correction and refiling also fails, contact Maldives Immigration before you fly. A Maldives Civil Aviation Authority circular lists info@immigration.gov.mv for queries.

Send a short message with your full name as in the passport, passport number, flight and the field that is wrong. Keep the reply, if any, on your phone for arrival.

Allow time for a response. Writing a week before travel is better than writing the night before.

Prevent errors in the first place

  • Fill in the form with the passport open in front of you.
  • Copy names exactly, including middle names and bin or binti if printed.
  • Do one form per traveller, including babies.
  • Use the booking voucher for the property name.
  • Check the date, because Maldives time is 3 hours behind Malaysia.

Families filling several forms at once make the most mistakes, especially with children's passport numbers. Do one person at a time and check each before submitting.

If your flight moves rather than your details being wrong, read what to do if your travel dates change after completing IMUGA.

Questions travellers ask

Will I be refused entry for a typo on IMUGA?
A small mistake is usually handled by correcting it, not by refusal, but officers have discretion and the passport details must match. Fix any error before travel, and if you only notice it at the airport, tell the immigration officer plainly and show your passport and booking. Do not wait for them to find it.
Can I submit a second declaration if the first is wrong?
If the portal does not let you edit, filing a fresh declaration with correct details is the practical route. Keep the confirmation of the corrected one and use that at arrival. Third-party guides suggest this approach, and Maldives Immigration has published info@immigration.gov.mv as a contact for queries.
A website is offering to fix my IMUGA form for a fee. Should I pay?
No. The Traveller Declaration is free, and Maldives Immigration has warned about sites that charge for it. Only use imuga.immigration.gov.mv. If you have already paid a third-party site, check that a real declaration was filed on the official portal.
I renewed my passport after filing IMUGA. What now?
Your declaration carries the old passport number, so it no longer matches. Update it or file a new declaration with the new passport details, inside the 96-hour window. Also update the passport number with your airline booking.
