The rule that drives everything: 96 hours
Maldives Immigration asks travellers to submit the Traveller Declaration up to 96 hours before arrival, not earlier (checked 12 Oct 2026). Every date change is about keeping your declaration inside that window and matching your real flight.
The entry and travel paperwork hub has the full set of entry pages. The IMUGA deadline reminder calculator works out the earliest filing time for a new arrival.
What to do for each type of change
Find your situation in the table. It assumes you have already filed once on the official portal.
| What changed | Is the old form still usable? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Same day, different flight number or time | Details are wrong | Edit flight details |
| Arrival moved earlier by a day or two | Details are wrong | Edit, or refile now |
| Arrival moved later, still within 96 hours of when you filed | Details are wrong | Edit the date and flight |
| Arrival moved later, beyond 96 hours from when you filed | Falls outside the window | Refile within 96 hours of the new arrival |
| Accommodation changed | Address is wrong | Edit the stay details |
| Trip cancelled | Not needed | File again only when you rebook |
| One traveller drops out | Their form is unused | Nothing to do for them |
Worked example: a three-day postponement
Aisyah filed IMUGA on Tuesday for an AirAsia arrival on Thursday at about 09:50 Maldives time. The airline moves her to Sunday's flight.
Sunday 09:50 is about five days after she filed on Tuesday. That is beyond 96 hours, so her declaration no longer fits the rule.
The earliest she can refile is 96 hours before Sunday 09:50, which is Wednesday at about 09:50 Maldives time, or 12:50 Malaysia time. She refiles on Thursday evening at home in KL, well inside the window.
Checklist after any date change
Do these together so nothing is left pointing at the old date.
- Edit or refile IMUGA for every traveller in the group.
- Update the resort or guesthouse with the new flight number and landing time.
- Rebook the speedboat, seaplane or domestic flight transfer.
- Check that your passport still has at least one month of validity after the new return date.
- Tell your travel insurer if the change was caused by a covered event.
- Delete screenshots of the old declaration.
Reading the time zones correctly
Most date confusion comes from mixing Malaysian and Maldives time. The Maldives is 3 hours behind Malaysia, and the 96-hour window counts back from arrival in the Maldives.
A Batik Air evening flight is a good example. It left KUL at about 20:40 and landed in Male at about 21:55 local time in an October 2026 sample schedule (Traveloka). The arrival date is the same calendar day, but the clock times look only about an hour apart.
If the airline moves you to a flight that lands after midnight, your arrival date changes even though you leave on the same evening. Edit IMUGA to the new arrival date in that case.
Changes that happen inside the window
Sometimes the change comes after you are already inside the 96-hour window. A flight delayed by a few hours, or moved to the next morning, is the common case.
Here the old declaration still sits inside the allowed timing, so an edit is enough. Change the flight number, date and time to match.
If you cannot edit in time, tell the immigration officer on arrival that your flight changed. Show the new boarding pass alongside your declaration.
How flight changes affect transfers
A new arrival time can move you past the seaplane cut-off, which is landing by about 15:30 for a same-day transfer (Trans Maldivian Airways). A later flight might mean a night near the airport.
Read how long an international to domestic connection should be if your resort needs a domestic flight. Correcting other errors in the form is covered in what to do if you entered incorrect information on IMUGA.
Who this suits, and a simple habit
Travellers on promo fares, which change more often, and families coordinating several forms gain the most from a fixed habit. File IMUGA two to three days before departure, never earlier, and only after checking the flight time once more.
That one habit avoids most date problems. If the flight then changes inside the window, a quick edit is usually all it takes.
Questions travellers ask
My trip was postponed by a month. Is my old declaration still valid?
Do I need to cancel the old declaration?
My flight was delayed overnight and now lands the next day. What should I do?
Do changed resort dates matter for IMUGA?
