What are the transfer options to Laamu?

There is one standard route: a domestic flight to Kadhdhoo, then a speedboat. A direct seaplane exists for Six Senses Laamu, but most guests fly.

How the domestic flight works

Resorts and guesthouses book you onto a Maldivian flight from the domestic terminal at Velana. A resort host usually meets you in arrivals and walks you across.

Flight times quoted by different sources range from about 35 to 55 minutes. Kadhdhoo has a runway of about 1,200 m, and the airport is on a causeway-linked island in the east of the atoll.

Times are from October 2026 sample schedules. Allow at least 90 minutes between landing and the domestic departure for immigration and bags.

The national benchmark for a domestic flight plus speedboat is about USD 350 to 520 per adult return (immaldives.com, checked 11 Oct 2026). Each resort sets its own price.

At RM4.09 per USD, that is about RM1,430 to RM2,130 per adult return. For two adults: about RM2,860 to RM4,250. One tour operator listing for Rahaa Resort shows a USD 350 child rate collected at check-in; treat that as one example, not a rule.

Limitations to plan around

• Schedules move: domestic timetables change by season and day. Ask for the flight number in writing.
• Return day: book a domestic flight that lands in Male at least three hours before your KLIA departure.
• Baggage: domestic allowances are usually around 20 kg checked; surfboards may cost extra or need advance notice.
• Weather: rough seas can slow the speedboat leg, and flights are occasionally delayed.

When a night near Male makes sense

If you land late and no domestic seat is available, sleep in Hulhumale and fly south next morning. This also suits families with small children after a long day.

Ask the resort whether it books the hotel, and whether your first resort night is charged if you arrive a day late.

A worked arrival day on AirAsia

Here is how a typical day looks if you take the morning AirAsia flight from KLIA. Times are approximate and depend on the domestic schedule your resort books.

You leave KLIA at about 08:35 Malaysia time and land in Male at about 09:50 local time, three hours behind Malaysia. Immigration, bags and the walk to the domestic terminal usually take 45 to 75 minutes.

If the resort has booked a late-morning or early-afternoon flight to Kadhdhoo, you land about an hour later and step onto the speedboat. Most guests reach Six Senses Laamu by mid-afternoon, in time for lunch or a swim.

On Malaysia Airlines, shift everything about 90 minutes later. You still arrive in daylight on most schedules.

A worked departure day

Going home is the part travellers underestimate. AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines both leave Male around midday or early afternoon, so you usually need an early domestic flight out of Kadhdhoo.

That can mean a dawn speedboat. Flight-tracking data shows morning departures from Kadhdhoo landing in Male around 07:00, which leaves a comfortable buffer. Ask the resort for the exact time when you book, not on the last day.

If your KLIA flight is in the evening on Batik Air, you get a more relaxed morning and can take a later domestic flight.

• Is the transfer price per adult return, and does it include tax and service charge?
• What do children and infants pay?
• What is the checked baggage allowance, and how are surfboards or dive gear charged?

Who this route suits

The Kadhdhoo route suits travellers on any KLIA flight who want a southern resort without the seaplane cut-off. It suits surfers who can arrange board carriage in advance.
