What is the route from Male to Addu?
Take a domestic flight from Velana (MLE) to Gan International Airport (GAN). Resortlife calls it the longest common domestic hop from Male, about 545 km, with a block time of about 70 to 90 minutes.
Maldivian and Manta Air are the usual airlines. There is no ferry from Male. For how domestic flights compare with seaplanes and speedboats, read our Maldives airport transfers explained guide.
When do flights run?
Several flights a day connect Male and Gan. A live board on Resortlife, viewed on 12 October 2026, showed Maldivian departures from Male at about 11:18 and 18:10, with returns from Gan at about 14:55 and 21:50.
Manta Air also flies the route. Times change by season and day of week, so treat these as a pattern and ask your resort or guesthouse to book the flight that matches your KLIA arrival.
Does it connect with flights from KLIA?
| KLIA flight (approx. Male arrival) | Likely Gan connection |
|---|---|
| AirAsia, lands about 09:50 | Late morning or afternoon flight the same day |
| Malaysia Airlines, lands about 11:25 | Afternoon or early evening flight the same day |
| Batik Air, lands about 21:55 | Usually a night in Hulhumale, then a morning flight |
Canareef's transfer terms say same-day transfer cannot be guaranteed for arrivals in Male after 22:00. The same caution applies to most Addu properties.
Going home, a morning or early afternoon flight from Gan suits the afternoon KLIA departures. Leave at least three hours in Male between flights.
The last leg: road or speedboat
Addu is unusual because four islands share a road. Gan, Feydhoo, Maradhoo and Hithadhoo are joined by a causeway of about 14 km.
| Where you stay | Last leg from Gan | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Equator Village (Gan) | Short drive, about 1 km | Discover Addu |
| Guesthouses on Feydhoo, Maradhoo, Hithadhoo | Taxi or pickup along the causeway | Discover Addu |
| Canareef Resort (Herathera) | Speedboat, about 10 to 20 minutes | Resort listings |
| South Palm Resort (Ismehela Hera) | Speedboat, about 10 minutes | Resort listings |
| Shangri-La Villingili | Boat; confirm with the resort | Shangri-La |
| Meedhoo or Hulhumeedhoo guesthouses | Boat or ferry; ask the host | Discover Addu |
What does it cost?
The domestic flight is quoted in US dollars per person. amaldives.com gives a general range of about USD 150 to 300 one way (undated), so get a written fare for your dates.
Resort boats add to that. A booking listing for Canareef shows USD 80 per adult and USD 40 per child (2 to 11) for the return speedboat, for stays between 2024 and 2026, paid to the resort. For two adults, that is USD 160, about RM654 at RM4.09 per USD (160 × 4.09).
Add these to the trip cost calculator.
Limitations to plan around
- Late arrivals: Batik Air passengers usually need a night near Male.
- Separate tickets: a domestic ticket booked apart from your KLIA flight is not protected if you miss it.
- Advance notice: Canareef asks for flight details 14 days before arrival; South Palm listings ask for 72 hours.
- Baggage: domestic allowances can be lower than international ones, so check before packing dive gear.
- Fridays: schedules are often thinner, so check before you choose dates.
Arrival day, step by step
On a morning KLIA arrival, the day usually runs like this:
- Land at Velana and clear immigration with your IMUGA declaration and accommodation booking.
- Collect bags and go to the domestic terminal; resorts often send a representative to meet you.
- Check in for the Gan flight and wait in the domestic area.
- Fly about 70 to 90 minutes south to Gan.
- Take the short drive along the causeway, or the resort speedboat.
If your resort arranges the flight, send the KLIA flight number as early as it asks. If you book the domestic ticket yourself, keep the booking reference and baggage allowance handy for check-in.
Adding Fuvahmulah
Gan is also the gateway for a sea crossing to Fuvahmulah. In March 2025, RTL ferries left Addu at 10:00 and 16:00, taking about 1 hour 15 to 20 minutes, with no Friday service. See our Fuvahmulah transfer guide.
Who this route suits
The Gan flight suits travellers with four or more nights who land in Male in the morning. It suits divers, cyclists and anyone combining Addu with Fuvahmulah.
For a three-night trip or a late-arriving family, a speedboat atoll near Male is simpler. Read the Addu atoll guide to decide whether the journey is worth it for you, and confirm every leg when you book.
