Is March a good time to visit the Maldives?

March is one of the most reliable weather months. It is the late northeast monsoon: dry, sunny and calm, with daytime highs around 31 C according to Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) monthly reports.

For Malaysians, March 2027 is unusual. The first-term school break and Hari Raya Aidilfitri fall in the same week, which concentrates demand. Outside that week, March is a good-value end to the high season.

March 2027 decision rule

The weather barely changes across March. The calendar does all the work, so choose the window first and the resort second.

The school break and Hari Raya week

The 2027 KPM calendar gives Group B states 6 to 14 March and Group A states 5 to 13 March. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is expected on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 March, subject to moon sighting.

Ramadan at the start of March

If Raya falls on 10 March, Ramadan runs through the first days of the month. Local islands keep a fasting-month rhythm until then, with cafes opening later and evenings livelier after iftar.

Resorts usually run normally for international guests. Muslim families staying at a resort should ask about suhoor and iftar arrangements and the Raya morning prayer.

Flights and transfers in March

Calm seas and long dry days make March reliable for seaplanes. Land in Male by about 15:30 to transfer on arrival day, per Trans Maldivian. The morning AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines arrivals from KUL fit; the evening Batik Air flight needs a night near the airport.

Heat and comfort

March is hot. The sun is high, cloud is limited and afternoons can feel heavy, especially for small children and older relatives.

Plan swimming and snorkelling for the morning, rest in shade at midday and keep evenings for walks. A villa with a pool or very close beach access helps, so nobody has to cross hot sand at 1pm.

What March costs

At many resorts March is still in the high-season band. AF Travel's 4D3N Le Meridien Thilamaafushi package (checked 11 Oct 2026) charges RM8,956 per adult twin share from 11 January to 14 April 2027, flights excluded.

Booking order for the school-break week

For the 6 to 14 March window, the order you book matters. Lock flights first, since three nonstop flights a day from KUL fill quickly with families.

Then confirm the resort and villa type, with child ages and bed set-up in writing. Last, file every traveller's IMUGA declaration, including infants, within 96 hours of arrival.

Who March suits best

March suits school-tied families who book early, couples travelling in the second half of the month and anyone who wants dry-season weather slightly after the January and February peak.
