Maldives in November, weather and holiday trade-offs

November is a month of change, ending the wet season while staying cheaper than the December rush.

Last reviewed 12 October 2026Prices researched 11 October 20263 min

Quick answer

November is the last month of the southwest monsoon, so showers and windy days are still common, with weather turning towards the drier season by December. Prices are usually below late-December festive rates. In 2026 Deepavali falls on Sunday 8 November with a replacement holiday on Monday 9 November in most states, giving a long weekend for a short trip.

What is Maldives weather like in November?

November is the last month of the southwest monsoon, which Visit Maldives places between May and November. Showers, cloudy spells and windy days remain common, with sunshine between them.

It is also a month of change. The drier northeast monsoon usually begins around December, so late November can feel more settled in some years, but there is no fixed switch date.

Temperatures stay warm, with highs around 30 to 31 C in Maldives Meteorological Service reports. Our best time to visit the Maldives from Malaysia guide and the when to visit hub put November in context with the rest of the year.

The Deepavali 2026 long weekend

Deepavali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November, with a replacement holiday on Monday 9 November in most states. That creates a Saturday to Monday window, and two days of leave can turn it into a five-day trip.

Here is a worked plan for a four-night trip using the sample October 2026 schedules (Traveloka, checked 11 Oct 2026):

  • Thursday 5 November: take leave, AirAsia from KUL about 08:35, landing about 09:50 Maldives time.
  • Thursday to Monday: four nights at a speedboat resort or local island.
  • Monday 9 November: fly home on the public holiday.
  • Leave used: Thursday and Friday, two days.

Schedules shift by season, so check your actual flight times. Fares around festive weekends can rise quickly, which is a reason to book early.

What does November cost?

November usually sits below the late-December festive peak. Published Malaysian packages checked on 11 October 2026 show this.

The HolidayGoGoGo 5D4N twin island package was RM5,499 per person twin share from 1 November to 20 December 2026, with speedboats, meals as listed and taxes, flights and festive surcharge excluded. The Brennia Kottefaru 4D3N honeymoon package was RM5,499 per person from November to 23 December, including seaplane and all-inclusive meals, flights excluded.

Flights add to that. One-way KUL to Male fares started at about RM460 on Traveloka for early November, with Malaysia Airlines around RM1,028 to RM1,049. Run your own figures with the trip cost guide.

Sea, transfers and activities

Choppy days are still possible in November, especially on open channels. Speedboat rides may be bumpier, and a squall can hold a seaplane for a while before it flies.

Seaplanes only fly between sunrise and sunset, and Trans Maldivian advises landing by about 15:30 for a same-day transfer. A morning arrival leaves more slack on a rainy afternoon.

Snorkelling and diving continue, though visibility can vary after rain. South Ari whale shark sightings peak from August to November, per Visit Maldives, but no sighting is guaranteed and only SAMPA-certified guides may take tourists.

Who November suits

November suits couples and adult groups using the Deepavali weekend or a few days of leave. It suits honeymooners who want lower rates than December and can accept a chance of showers.

Families with school-age children usually wait for the December break. Travellers who want the driest odds should look at January to April. For the month that follows, read Maldives in December, and for the month before, Maldives in October.

November planning checklist

  • Book flights for the Deepavali weekend early, as festive fares rise.
  • Choose a short transfer if your trip is three nights or fewer.
  • Pack a light rain jacket and a dry bag for phones on the boat.
  • Check whether your package includes Green Tax and taxes.
  • Get travel insurance that covers weather delays.

Questions travellers ask

Is November the start of the dry season?
Not quite. Visit Maldives places the southwest monsoon from May to November and the drier northeast monsoon from December to April. November is the transition month, so some years turn settled earlier and others stay wet. Plan as if showers are likely and treat drier days as a bonus.
Is a Deepavali long weekend enough for the Maldives?
It can be, if you keep transfers short. Leaving KUL on Saturday 7 November 2026 and returning on Monday 9 November gives two nights, or add one or two days of leave for three or four nights. A speedboat resort near Male or Maafushi suits this better than a seaplane resort.
Will flights be expensive in November?
A Traveloka search on 11 October 2026 showed one-way KUL to Male fares from about RM460, with AirAsia around RM473 on 3 November and Batik Air around RM479 on 5 November. Malaysia Airlines was roughly RM1,028 to RM1,049 one way. Fares around Deepavali may be higher, so check your exact dates.
Are Malaysian school holidays in November?
No. The 2026 year-end school holiday starts on 5 December for Group B states and 4 December for Group A, based on the KPM calendar summarised by ecentral.my. November trips with school-age children usually mean missed school days.
