What is the accommodation scene on Thoddoo?
It is a guesthouse island. When Bank of Maldives installed a USD ATM on 20 August 2025, it cited more than 50 guesthouses there.
Properties are small. Ministry of Tourism registry entries for Thoddoo show sizes from about 6 to 20 rooms. There are no resorts on the island itself.
Registered examples by size
These Thoddoo properties appeared in the Ministry of Tourism registered facilities directory, seen through search results on 12 October 2026. We list them to show the range, not as recommendations.

How to shortlist in five steps
- Check registration: search the property name in the Ministry of Tourism directory, or ask the guesthouse for its registration.
- Pick your beach: Sunrise Beach is quieter, Sunset Beach is larger. Choose a guesthouse within a short walk.
- Decide on meals: breakfast is common; half board helps on an island with few cafes.
- Confirm the transfer: ask which boat, the price per person and whether it meets your flight.
- Read recent reviews: look for comments on cleanliness, water pressure, hot water and WiFi.
Questions to ask before you pay
- Is the price per room or per person, and does it include 10% service, 17% TGST and Green Tax?
- Is breakfast included, and what does half board cost per person per night?
- Which shared speedboat do you book, at what price, and what happens if my flight is late?
- Do you lend bicycles and snorkel gear?
- What is the cancellation policy if the boat is cancelled for weather?
- Do you accept cards, and with what fee?
Ask for the answers by email or WhatsApp, so you have them in writing.
Red flags when comparing listings
A few warning signs are worth walking away from. None of them is common, but each one can spoil a short trip.
- The listing name does not match any registered property, and the host cannot give a registration.
- The price looks far below the USD 60 floor of the usual band, with taxes "to be paid later" and no figure given.
- The host asks for full payment by personal bank transfer with no written confirmation.
- Photos show a beach view, but the map puts the property in the middle of the village.
- There is no clear answer on who books the speedboat or what happens if it is cancelled.
Ask for a written booking confirmation with the property name, dates, room type, meal plan and total including taxes. Immigration may ask to see it on arrival, alongside your return ticket.
Recent guest reviews are useful for practical points, such as hot water, air conditioning noise and how far the room really is from the beach. Weigh reviews from the last year more than older ones, because small guesthouses change owners and managers.
What a room costs
Local-island doubles typically fall between USD 60 and USD 180 per room per night before tax (holiday.com.mv, checked 11 Oct 2026). Add 10% service and 17% TGST, then USD 6 Green Tax per guest per night.
At USD 100 a night for two, that is USD 100 x 1.287 + USD 12 = about USD 141, or RM 577 at RM 4.09. The Thoddoo cost guide builds the full trip.
Matching a guesthouse to your trip
| You are | Look for |
|---|---|
| Honeymoon couple | Sea-view or upper-floor room, near Sunrise Beach, half board |
| Family with young children | Family or connecting rooms, short walk to beach, cot available |
| Friends on a budget | Simple double, free bikes, kitchen access |
| Divers | Partner dive centre, gear storage, early breakfast |
| Older travellers | Ground-floor room, close to the jetty and beach |
Muslim travellers will find halal food by default. Read halal dining on local islands versus resorts for the wider picture.
When to look beyond Thoddoo
If you want a compact island where every guesthouse is close to the beach, compare Ukulhas guesthouses. If you want resort service for part of the trip, plan one or two resort nights at the end.
Questions travellers ask
Why does registration matter?
Is it better to book directly or through a booking site?
Do Thoddoo guesthouses have family rooms?
Can I get halal food at my guesthouse?
