On Ukulhas, choosing a guesthouse is less about location than on bigger islands, because everything is close. The real choices are room quality, meals and how well the host handles your transfer.
For what the island is like, read the Ukulhas island guide. For local-island stays in general, see the local islands beginner guide.
What is the accommodation scene on Ukulhas?
It is a small-guesthouse island with a few boutique hotels. aMaldives (April 2026) counted 27 guesthouses, which we treat as an approximate figure.
There are no resorts on Ukulhas itself. Nearby resorts in North Ari are reached by their own boats or seaplanes.
Registered examples by size
These Ukulhas properties appeared in the Ministry of Tourism registered facilities directory, seen through search results on 12 October 2026. We list them to show the range, not as recommendations.

Guides also name properties such as Gunbaru Inn, Ukulhas Inn, Coral Reef View Inn and Moodhu Inn (Wikivoyage), and a 2026 tour package uses the 10-room Ostrov Hotel (Kilroy). We did not confirm their registration, so check before you pay.
Beach-facing or village room?
| Option | Pros | Cons | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beach-facing | Sea view, steps to the sand | Usually costs more | Honeymooners, families with toddlers |
| Village | Lower price, quieter at night | Short walk to the beach | Budget travellers, friends |
Because the island is only about 1 km long, a village room is rarely more than a few minutes from the beach.
How to shortlist in five steps
- Check registration: search the name in the Ministry of Tourism directory, or ask the host.
- Decide on view: pay for beach-facing only if the view matters to you.
- Check meals: breakfast is common; half board is optional on Ukulhas.
- Confirm the transfer: which speedboat, the fare per person, and whether it waits for a late flight.
- Read recent reviews: focus on cleanliness, hot water, air conditioning and WiFi.
Questions to ask before you pay
- Is the price per room or per person, and does it include 10% service, 17% TGST and Green Tax?
- What does half board cost per person per night?
- Which speedboat do you book, at what fare, and what if the boat is cancelled?
- Do you lend snorkel gear and kayaks?
- Do you accept cards, and is there a card fee?
- What is the cancellation policy?

Red flags when comparing listings
A few warning signs are worth walking away from.
- The property name does not match any registered facility, and the host cannot give a registration.
- The price is far below the usual USD 60 floor, with taxes left unstated.
- The host asks for full payment by personal bank transfer without a written confirmation.
- Photos promise an ocean view that the map does not support.
- Nobody can say who books the speedboat, or what happens if it is cancelled.
Weigh recent reviews more than older ones. Small guesthouses change managers, and a property's standards can shift quickly in either direction.
What a room costs
Local-island doubles typically fall between USD 60 and USD 180 per room per night before tax (holiday.com.mv, checked 11 Oct 2026). Add 10% service and 17% TGST, then USD 6 Green Tax per guest per night.
At USD 100 a night for two, that is USD 100 x 1.287 + USD 12 = about USD 141, or RM 577 at RM 4.09. The Ukulhas cost guide works out a full trip.
Matching a guesthouse to your trip

| Friends on a budget | Village double, free snorkel gear |
| Divers | Partner dive centre, early breakfast, gear rinse area |
| Older travellers | Ground-floor room, short walk to the jetty |
Muslim travellers will find halal food by default. Our page on halal dining on local islands versus resorts explains the wider picture.
When to look beyond Ukulhas
If you want more space and a bigger choice of guesthouses, compare Thoddoo guesthouses. If you want privacy and full service for part of the trip, plan a resort night or two at the end.
