Fuvahmulah is a diving trip first, so the dives and the domestic flight drive the budget more than the room. This page builds both a diver's and a non-diver's cost line by line.

What do 5 nights cost per person?

A diver sharing a room pays about RM4,960 before meals, dive taxes and KUL flights. A non-diving partner pays about RM2,760.

The room uses Aariyaa View's "from USD 80 a night" listing on aMaldives (April 2026), with 10% service charge and 17% Tourism GST added (x 1.287). Dive prices are Scuba Butler's listed rate for 2 to 5 dives, applied as a planning figure for six, before service charge and tax.

How do 2026 dive packages compare?

Packages can be simpler and similar in price. These were listed for 2026 when we checked in October 2026:

Package (per person, twin sharing)StayPrice
Liquid Shark Divers5 nights, 3 dive days (1 tiger + 2 wall dives a day)USD 1,450 to 1,600
Liquid Shark Divers7 nights, 5 dive daysUSD 2,050 to 2,300
Shark Residence (Dive The World), low season May to Aug 20263 nights, 4 divesFrom USD 982
Shark Residence, peak season Feb to Apr 20263 nights, 4 divesFrom USD 1,178

Check each package for what it leaves out: domestic flights, meals, Green Tax and equipment are common extras.

Adding flights from Malaysia

The cheapest KUL to Male return seen on 11 Oct 2026 was RM1,155 per person. Adding it to the diver's total gives about RM6,118, and the non-diver's about RM3,910.

Meals and extras are on top. At about USD 30 a day for guesthouse meals, as our own planning assumption, 5 days add about USD 150, or RM614, per person.

What moves the number most

  • Dive count: each extra tiger dive adds about USD 90 to 120 before tax.
  • Domestic fare: it changed often in 2026; a booking fee may apply for non-divers.
  • Equipment: full rental was listed at about USD 30 a day.
  • Season: the Shark Residence package was about 20% higher in peak season.
  • Courses: an Open Water course was about USD 550 to 610 in April 2026.

Run your own numbers in the trip cost calculator.

Ways to keep the cost down

  • Bring your own mask, fins and dive computer.
  • Ask for a multi-dive rate rather than paying per dive.
  • Travel May to August, when some packages are lower.
  • Choose a guesthouse that includes airport pickup and bicycles.
  • Share a room: the room line halves, while flights and dives do not.

Money on the island

Plan to pay most extras in US dollars. aMaldives reports ATMs dispensing rufiyaa and wide acceptance of US dollars, but small shops and taxis often prefer cash.

Dive centres may take cards for package balances, sometimes with a surcharge. Ask in advance, and carry enough cash in small notes for meals, taxis and tips for the whole stay. Ringgit is not usable on the island.

A worked example for a couple, one diving

For a couple where one person dives, add the two columns together. That is USD 1,213.50 plus USD 673.50, or USD 1,887, about RM7,718 for the pair before meals, dive taxes and KUL flights.

Add two KUL returns at RM1,155 each and the couple's total is about RM10,028. Meals at our planning figure of about USD 30 per person per day add about RM1,227 for two over 5 days.

What the numbers leave out

  • Service charge and tax on dives, which the listing adds on top.
  • Equipment rental if you bring nothing.
  • Travel and dive insurance from Malaysia.
  • A possible Hulhumale night if your KLIA arrival misses the domestic flight.
  • Excess baggage on the domestic flight, about USD 5 per kg in March 2025.

Who this budget suits

It suits certified divers and couples where one dives and one explores. If you want a resort or a lagoon, add resort nights in Addu; the Fuvahmulah local island versus resort guide shows how.

The Fuvahmulah island guide explains who the island fits.

Questions travellers ask

Is a dive package better value than booking separately?
Often, if you want several dive days. Packages bundle the room, dives and sometimes airport transfers, and are priced per person twin sharing. Ask whether the package includes the domestic flight, meals, Green Tax, service charge and GST, and whether the tiger dive or the wall dives are counted per dive or per day.
Are dive prices taxed?
Yes. The Scuba Butler listing states its prices are subject to a 10% service charge and goods and services tax, though the tax rate it shows looks older than the current 17% Tourism GST. Ask the dive centre for the total per dive with all charges included.
Do I need my own dive gear?
No, but rental adds up. A PADI centre listing on the island shows a full equipment set at about USD 30 per day. Bringing your own mask, fins and computer saves money and fits within the 25 kg domestic baggage allowance reported in March 2025.
How much does a non-diving partner spend?
Mainly the shared room, Green Tax and flights, plus meals and island tours. A surf lesson was about USD 50 to 70 in one April 2026 guide. Many couples find the non-diver's cost is about half the diver's, as shown in the worked example.
