What to decide before requesting a Maldives quotation

You are ready to ask for prices, and you want the first reply to be useful rather than a list of questions back.

Last reviewed 12 October 2026Prices researched 11 October 20264 min

Quick answer

Decide eight things before you ask for a quote. These are your travel window, number of nights, who is travelling with child ages, budget per person, trip type, room preference, meal plan, and whether flights from Kuala Lumpur should be included. Add any must-haves such as halal food, a kids club or a same-day seaplane. A brief with these answers gets comparable quotes on the first reply.

Key facts

  • Departure airport

    KLIA for nonstop flights

  • Green Tax under-2s

    Exempt

    Give exact child ages

  • Seaplane cut-off

    Land by about 15:30

The eight decisions

A useful Maldives quotation depends on eight answers from you. Without them, the first reply is usually questions, or a quote that does not fit.

You do not need every answer to be final. A range or "not sure, show me two" is still a decision. This page is part of our Start Here hub and leads into the trip brief generator.

The decisions, ranked by how much they change the quote

Decisions 1 to 4: the hard limits

Your window, nights, travellers and budget are the limits every option must fit. Give child ages, not just "two kids", because a 1-year-old and a 12-year-old are priced and roomed very differently.

State budget per person and whether it includes flights. For a starting point, see what makes a Maldives trip expensive.

Decisions 5 to 8: the shape of the trip

Trip type decides the transfer. Seaplanes fly sunrise to sunset, so if you want a seaplane resort, ask for a flight that lands by about 15:30. From Kuala Lumpur, AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines arrive in the morning; Batik Air arrives about 21:55.

Room and meal plan are where quotes differ most. If you are unsure, ask for two versions, such as beach villa on half board and beach villa on all-inclusive. Our guide to choosing your type of Maldives holiday helps if trip type is still open.

Worked example: a vague brief versus a clear one

A vague brief reads: "Maldives honeymoon, March, how much?" The likely reply is a list of questions, or one resort quote that may not suit.

A clear brief reads: "2 adults, any 4 nights between 6 and 21 March 2027, flights from KLIA included and landing by midday, RM 7,000 to 9,000 per person, seaplane or speedboat resort, beach villa with one water villa night, full board or all-inclusive compared, halal food important."

The second brief lets a seller return two or three comparable options in one reply. It also makes it easy to compare sellers, because each answered the same question.

Must-haves to add

After the eight decisions, add anything that would rule an option out:

  • Halal food or a resort without alcohol nearby
  • Prayer space or qibla direction
  • Kids club, cot, or interconnecting rooms
  • Good house reef for snorkelling from the beach
  • Step-free paths for older parents
  • A special occasion such as a honeymoon or milestone birthday

A fill-in brief you can copy

Copy this and fill the blanks:

  • Travel window: __ to __, for __ nights
  • Travellers: __ adults, children aged __
  • Departing from: KLIA / connecting from __
  • Flights: include / I will book my own
  • Budget: RM __ to __ per person, flights in / out
  • Trip type: local island / resort near Male / seaplane resort / twin island / not sure
  • Room: beach villa / water villa / split / guesthouse room
  • Meal plan: breakfast / half board / full board / all-inclusive / compare
  • Must-haves: __
  • Occasion: __

Ask for this back

Ask every quote to state the price basis (per person or per room, twin sharing), number of nights, room category name, meal plan, transfer type, and whether service charge, TGST and Green Tax are included.

Then use what is and is not included in a package to check the inclusions, and how to compare quotes fairly to line them up. If your dates are still open, read planning when dates are not confirmed.

Who this suits

This approach suits every traveller type, from a budget friend group to a honeymoon couple. Company HR planners should add the number of rooms, the billing entity and a named coordinator. Facts on this page were checked in October 2026.

Questions travellers ask

Should I tell a seller my real budget?
Yes, as a range per person with flights in or out. A budget lets the seller skip options you will reject and show the best value inside your range. Without one, you may get a single luxury quote or a single budget quote. You stay free to decline every option.
How many quotes should I ask for?
Two or three is usually enough, as long as each uses the same brief. More quotes on different bases create confusion rather than clarity. Give each seller the identical brief so their replies can be compared line by line.
Do I need to choose a specific resort first?
No. Naming one or two resorts you like is helpful, but a clear brief with budget, room type and must-haves lets a seller suggest alternatives you may not know. If you have already chosen a resort, say so, and ask for one or two comparable options.
