Fulidhoo is not an island of long to-do lists. Its appeal is that the best wildlife sits a few steps from your guesthouse, and one boat trip a day is usually plenty.
This page covers what you can do for free, which trips are sold on the island and how to plan the days. For the island overview, start with the Fulidhoo island guide.
What can you do on Fulidhoo for free?
Watch the rays and sharks, swim at the bikini beach and walk the island. These cost nothing and fill more time than you might expect.
- The shark and stingray shallows. Nurse sharks, stingrays and sometimes turtles come into shallow water near the jetty, according to a 2025 travel guide. It is the island's signature sight.
- The bikini beach. Swimwear is allowed on the designated beach on the east side. Elsewhere, cover shoulders and knees.
- Sunset walk. The same guide notes a sunset viewpoint at the western end and a large banyan tree in the village centre.
- Village life. The whole island is about 700 m long, so an evening stroll takes in the mosque, the harbour and the small shops.

Which boat trips are sold on Fulidhoo?
Guesthouses and the dive centres sell most trips, usually by the day before. The table lists what 2025 and 2026 guides report.
| Trip | What it involves | Suits | Ask before paying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Snorkel trip | Boat to nearby reefs or a shipwreck | Most travellers | Current, life jackets, guide in the water |
| Sandbank picnic | A few hours on an uninhabited sandbank | Couples, families | Shade, food included, return time |
| Night or sunset fishing | Local handline fishing | Groups, families | Whether the catch is cooked for you |
| Resort day visit | Boat to a nearby resort with pool and food allowance | Couples wanting a break | Which resort, what the allowance covers |
| Dolphin or whale shark search | Longer boat trip, sightings not guaranteed | Wildlife fans | Distance, time on the boat, refund if cancelled |
| Kayaking | Paddle around the lagoon | Active travellers | Rental per hour, where you may go |
We found no dated price list for these trips during our 12 Oct 2026 check. Ask for prices per person, and whether Green Tax or boat fees are added.
Diving from Fulidhoo
Fulidhoo has dive centres on the island, which makes it a good base for Vaavu's channel diving. Travel guides list Fulidhoo Dive, described by a dive travel listing as a PADI 5-Star centre, and Divers Lodge.
A 2026 island guide names channel dives at Fotteyo Kandu and Miyaru Kandu, and night dives for certified divers. The dive listing describes reef sharks, pelagic life and night dives with many nurse sharks.
Channel dives carry current and suit experienced divers. Beginners can try a first dive or a course on calmer sites. Leave 24 hours without diving before your flight, following Divers Alert Network guidance.
How to choose an operator
There are only a few operators, so you can compare them in one message each. Look for these points.
- The business can show a current tourism or dive operating permit if you ask.
- Life jackets are provided for every snorkeller and sized for children.
- A guide enters the water with snorkellers on drift or current sites.
- The boat carries a first aid kit and oxygen for dive trips.
- The price states what is included and whether taxes are extra.
- The cancellation policy covers bad weather.
A sample 4-day rhythm
- Arrival day: take the afternoon speedboat, check in, walk to the jetty to see the rays at dusk.
- Day 2: morning snorkel trip, afternoon on the bikini beach.
- Day 3: sandbank picnic or a resort day visit, early night.
- Day 4: free morning with the rays, sunset at the western end, night fishing if the sea is calm.
- Departure: the early return boat, with no diving in the previous 24 hours.
Getting there and back is explained in how to get to Fulidhoo from Male airport.
Weather and sea conditions
The northeast monsoon, about December to April, usually brings drier days and calmer crossings. The southwest monsoon, about May to November, brings more rain and choppier water, so some boat trips may be cancelled.
Build one spare day into any trip where a particular excursion matters to you.
Who Fulidhoo's activities suit
Fulidhoo suits snorkellers, divers, couples and older travellers who like simple days near the water. Families enjoy the rays, with close supervision near the jetty.
Travellers who want water sports centres, many excursion choices or nightlife usually have more fun on Maafushi. The Maafushi versus Fulidhoo comparison sets out the difference, and the Fulidhoo cost guide helps you budget the trips.
