You have picked Thulusdhoo and now need to choose one guesthouse out of thirty or more.

Last reviewed 12 October 2026Prices researched 12 October 20264 min

Quick answer

Thulusdhoo has over 30 guesthouses (aMaldives listed 34 in early 2026), most small and many set up for surfers. Shortlist by distance to the bikini beach or Cokes, whether the rate includes 10% service, 17% GST and USD 6 Green Tax, breakfast, board storage and family rooms. aMaldives indicative 2026 rates for named examples run from about USD 75 to 220 a night by room and season.

Worth knowing

  • Surf is most consistent from about March to October, the wetter southwest monsoon months
  • Cokes breaks over shallow reef; it suits intermediate and advanced surfers
  • Maldives Islamic Bank opened ATMs in December 2024 and Bank of Maldives covers every inhabited Kaafu island; still carry US dollars

Getting there from Male airport

  • shared speedboat: about 25 to 30 minutesAbout USD 30 per person one way (Jonny Melon, Apr 2026; aMaldives, Jan 2026). Confirm with your guesthouse
  • public ferry: about 1.5 to 2.5 hoursAbout USD 3 per person one way, reported

On Thulusdhoo, most guesthouses are small, close to the water and similar in price. What separates them is whether they suit your trip: surf support, a family room, a quiet side of the island or breakfast that fixes some of your food bill.

What is the guesthouse scene on Thulusdhoo like?

aMaldives listed 34 guesthouses on Thulusdhoo in early 2026. Most have between four and fifteen rooms, with air conditioning, private bathrooms and WiFi.

Many cater to surfers, with board racks, surf guiding and boat runs to Chickens. Others are general beach guesthouses that happen to sit on a surf island.

There are no resorts on the island, and alcohol is not served. North Male Atoll resorts are nearby if you want to split the trip.

A shortlisting checklist

  • Total price for your dates, with 10% service, 17% Tourism GST and USD 6 Green Tax per guest per night shown.
  • Walking time to the nearest bikini beach.
  • Breakfast included, and whether half or full board is offered.
  • For surfers: board storage, rental, guiding and boat runs to Chickens.
  • For families: a true family room, and a ground-floor option.
  • Airport pickup and the speedboat booking.
  • Card payment, cash only, or card fee.

How the per-night tax works is explained in Green Tax for Malaysian travellers.

Which kind of stay suits which traveller?

Surfers do best at a surf-focused guesthouse with guiding and boat runs. If you travel in June to August, ask whether the property treats it as high season.

Families should look for a family room and a short walk to the eastern or northwest tourist beach. Couples who want quiet should ask for a beach-side room away from the harbour.

Budget travellers and friend groups can share a twin or family room. Splitting a USD 120 to 150 family room three ways is often cheaper per head than two doubles.

Questions to ask before you pay

  • What is the full price for my dates, including all taxes?
  • Which beach is closest, and how many minutes on foot?
  • Can you meet us at the airport and book the boat?
  • Is there storage for surfboards or dive gear?
  • What happens if a boat or flight is cancelled by weather?

Booking direct or through a platform

Both work. Booking platforms make card payment and cancellation simple, while booking direct often makes it easier to add the speedboat, surf guiding and trips in one message.

Whichever you choose, keep a written confirmation with the guesthouse name, dates and total price. Maldives immigration expects a confirmed booking at a registered property, and a clear confirmation also settles any dispute about taxes at check-out.

Price, tax and what "from" means

A "from USD 80" rate is the cheapest room in the cheapest month. If tax is not included, add 10% service and 17% GST, which makes it about USD 103, plus USD 12 Green Tax for two people.

The full 4-night maths is on what a Thulusdhoo holiday costs, and surf-specific costs on the Thulusdhoo surf trip cost breakdown.

When a different base works better

If you want long quiet beaches and do not surf, compare Dhiffushi guesthouses. If you want resort service or a pool villa, a North Male Atoll resort will suit better.

Choose a Thulusdhoo guesthouse when the short transfer, the surf or a lively small-island feel are what you came for.

Questions travellers ask

Should surfers stay near Cokes?
It helps, since you can check the break and paddle out without a boat. But Thulusdhoo is small, about 700 by 400 metres according to one listing, so almost every guesthouse is a short walk from the water. Board storage and access to a surf guide often matter more than exact location.
Do Thulusdhoo guesthouses serve halal food?
Thulusdhoo is a Muslim island, and food served by local guesthouses and cafes is halal by default. Alcohol is not served on the island. Breakfast is commonly included, and some guesthouses offer half or full board, which is worth asking about if you want meal costs fixed.
Is Thulusdhoo noisy?
It is livelier than quieter islands, with a harbour, a factory and surf crowds in season. Rooms facing the village may hear prayer calls and traffic. If quiet matters, ask for a room on the beach side and away from the harbour.
How do I check a guesthouse is registered?
Registered properties appear on the Ministry of Tourism registered facilities list, although the site sometimes blocks automated access. Ask the guesthouse for its registration, and make sure the booking confirmation shows the same name, since Maldives immigration expects a booking at a registered facility.
